    #298: Heather Antos - Senior Group Editor Star Trek, IDW Dark

    This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes Star Trek Editor Heather Antos to the program to celebrate 60 years of Star Trek on Star Trek Day 2026. Heather Antos is the Senior Group Editor in charge of Star Trek at IDW Publishing. Antos oversees the Star Trek line which includes titles such as The Last Starship, Red Shirts, Lower Decks, Starfleet Academy: Lost Contact, Strange New Worlds: The Seeds of Salvation, and more! Star Trek Day is an annual commemorative day on September 8, referencing the broadcast US premiere of the original Star Trek series on that day in 1966, with the airing of "The Man Trap". This year, we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of Star Trek with this episode dropping a day early to coincide with the special day!     #297: Christian Ward - Writer of The Forever Home, The Patron, Event Horizon

    This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes comic creator Christian Ward to the program to discuss The Forever Home, The Patron, and more! After 10 years of encouraging London teenagers to draw anything other than comics, Christian Ward is now a multi-Eisner winning comic book artist and writer. He is best known for his cosmic space operas ODY-C co-created with Matt Fraction and the Einser winning Invisible Kingdom co-created with G Willow Wilson. He was also the artist on the Acclaimed Marvel comics series Black Bolt (with Saladin Ahmed), as well contributing to both Thor (with Jason Arron) and Batman (with James Tynion IV). In 2019 he released his first book as a writer, Machine Gun Wizards co-created with Sami Kivelä and in 2022 released Blood Stained Teeth co-created with Patric Reynolds. Over the past few years, Ward has illustrated Spectregraph for DSTLRY and written such comics as Batman: City of Madness (artist as well) and Two-Face for DC Comics, Event Horizon: Dark Descent, Event Horizon: Inferno, and Event Horizon: Pandemonium for IDW Publishing, as well The Patron for Ignition Press and the upcoming The Forever Homefor Oni Press.     This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes back comic creators Julio Anta and Jacoby Salcedo to discuss their upcoming comic No Gods, No Masters and more! Salcedo is an Eisner Award-nominated comic book illustrator based in Portland, Oregon. He is the artist on Dark Horse miniseries, It's Only Teenage Wasteland with writer Curt Pires. Jacoby has also been featured in multiple comic anthologies such as DC's Legion of Bloom, Panel X Panel, Graphic Mundi's Covid Chronicles, A Wave Blue World's Young Men in Love, Monsters in Love: A Pride Anthology, and more! Anta is an Eisner Award-nominated author of many graphic novels including Home, Sí, Se Puede: The Latino Heroes Who Changed the United States and The Beast of Boriken. Julio can also be found in anthologies such as EC Comics' Shellshock and Cruel Universe, DC's Legion of Bloom and Batman: Urban Legends, as well as Hello Darkness.     #295: Adam Cesare - Author of Clown in a Cornfield

    This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes author Adam Cesare to the program to discuss Clown in a Cornfield 4: Lights! Camera! Frendo! and more! Cesare is the author of the Bram Stoker Award-winning Clown in a Cornfield series and several other novels and novellas including the cult hit Video Night which gets a new edition this September 29, Influencer, and The Toxic Avenger. The fourth installment in the Clown in a Cornfield series hit shelves on August 18, 2026 at bookstores everywhere. Cesare also announced re-releases of Zero Lives Remaining, Video Night as well as a physical version of Mercy House coming September 1, September 30, and October 20, 2026 respectively. Over the past few years, Cesare has been a part of a number of various comics including Power Rangers Unlimited: The Coinless and Jim Henson's The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, not to mention his comic series Dead Mall at Dark Horse. The Clown in a Cornfield feature film adaptation directed by Eli Craig and written by Craig and Carter Blanchard hit theaters on May 9, 2025. Based on Cesare's novel, the film stars Katie Douglas, Aaron Abrams, Carson MacCormac, Kevin Durand, and Will Sasso.     #294: The Rocketeer Movie Review

    This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes back Paul Eaton of Galactic Comics and Collectibles to discuss the 1991 film, The Rocketeer. Cliff Secord is a cocky stunt pilot in love with a beautiful actress, Jenny Blake. When he discovers a jetpack hidden in a biplane, Cliff straps on the rocket, dons a flashy helmet and becomes the high-flying hero known as The Rocketeer. But when Nazis want to use the rocket as a weapon, Cliff must use his alter ego to both protect Jenny from an evil actor and save the day. The Rocketeer was directed by Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger, Jumanji, October Sky) on a story by Danny Bilson, Paul De Meo, and William Dear based on the comic books by Dave Stevens. The film stars Billy Campbell as Clifford "Cliff" Secord / The Rocketeer, Alan Arkin as A. "Peevy" Peabody, Jennifer Connelly as Jenny Blake, Timothy Dalton as Neville Sinclair, Paul Sorvino as Eddie Valentine, Terry O'Quinn as Howard Hughes, and Tiny Ron Taylor as Lothar. Cliff Secord first appeared in Starslayer #2 (April 1982) from Pacific Comics before coming back in Pacific Comics Presents. The rights to the comic are now with IDW Publishing having released recent series such as The Island and Infiltrator! in 2026. You can watch the film on Disney+ as well as Prime Video.     #291: Dane Erbach - Author of Meat Bees

    This week on the Capes and Tights Podcast, Justin Soderberg welcomes author Dane Erbach to the program to discuss Meat Bees, his upcoming novel from Clash Books, and more! Erbach is a writer from Chicago’s northwest suburbs. He teaches English and journalism at a public high school. In 2006, Dane received his bachelor's degree in English and Education from Lake Forest College, where he wrote for the student newspaper. He taught at a North Shore high school before landing at McHenry Community High School, where he has taught since 2008. Dane earned his master's degree from DePaul University's School of New Learning in 2014. For many summers, he has taught writing at Northwestern University to gifted and talented middle and elementary school students. In 2024, Dane published his first novel entitled Friday Night at Humble House. His second novel, Meat Bees, publishes on August 4, 2026 form Clash Books.
