Vampires Ruined My Life

Love your podcast. Happy that you did Nosferatu because I just went to a steampunk expo in Chicago with a vampire theme. A band called Valentine Wolfe played an original score while the older version of Nosferatu ran. I enjoy the 1979 version too.

To be honest, I found one of the two hosts to be really obnoxious. I appreciated the honesty regarding their feelings on the show, I'm a fan but it was not without its flaws, but some of their criticisms were a bit much. I get they didn't love the idea of it straying so far from the books so then they probably should have checked out after that. They kind of hyper-fixated on book comparisons despite constantly saying they have to think of it as a different iteration, but then still proceeded to compare every aspect to the book. I don't feel like they understood or paid attention enough to what was going on to provide insight on certain facets of the series. For example, one host commented on a plot twist not making sense because the show didn't take the time to drop clues. Which was inaccurate because Antoinette was sitting on the bus dressed in men's clothing had she gone back and rewatched the scene before attributing it to a flaw. And I'm all for a good "hate watch" but I didn't really find them able to provide humor, insight, or give solid reasoning for their dislikes like other podcasts covering the series.

I think they missed the point of the show. The show is a reimagining. It was never meant to be an exact telling of the books so the critiques they give about the show not matching the books becomes a bit cringe. The books are the books but I feel the hosts didn’t allow themselves to understand the story the show alone was trying to tell and therefore ruined their own experience. Not to say they had to love the show but at least the criticism would’ve been focused on how the show tells the story and whether it works for the story the show runners are trying to tell. The only criticism I agreed with is the thoughts on Armand because that made sense based on how the show presented it. The show should’ve did that a bit different. Nonetheless, if the hosts decide to cover season 2, I’ll listen to the 1st episode but if they continue to be closed minded, critiquing things that don’t fit their own personal expectations, I won’t continue to listen.
