EP 155 | Tabitha Brown on No Longer Hiding Who You Are & the Freedom of Being Yourself

Today, Tabitha Brown joins us for an honest conversation about authenticity, identity, self-discovery, healing, self-trust, and the freedom of becoming fully yourself. For many people, losing themselves happens slowly through people-pleasing, shrinking, surviving, code-switching, meeting expectations, and becoming who everyone else needs them to be. Eventually, the question becomes: Is this really who I am, or is this who I learned I needed to be? Tabitha shares what she's learned about trusting herself, embracing who she is, letting go of other people’s expectations, and choosing authenticity over approval. In this conversation, Carla and Tabitha explore: Why people hide parts of themselves to feel acceptedPeople-pleasing and self-abandonmentLearning to trust yourself againLetting go of who you were taught to beThe courage to live authenticallyHow healing can lead to greater freedom, confidence, and purposeAs a Trauma Recovery & Identity Reconstruction Coach, Carla helps people move beyond survival and rediscover who they are beneath the roles, expectations, relationships, and experiences that shaped them. EP 154 | Understanding the Difference Between Healthy Boundaries & Emotional Avoidanc e

Have you ever told yourself you were setting a healthy boundary when, if you’re being completely honest, you just didn’t want to deal with what the situation was making you feel? Maybe you stopped responding, emotionally checked out, avoided the conversation, cut someone off, or decided you were simply protecting your peace. But how do you know when you’re genuinely protecting your emotional well-being and when you’re slipping into emotional avoidance? Sometimes distance is necessary. Sometimes walking away is wisdom. But sometimes what looks like a healthy boundary may actually be connected to conflict avoidance, childhood trauma, fear of rejection, people-pleasing, emotional detachment, or an old survival pattern that still influences the way you handle relationships today. This week I'm inviting you to take a closer look at the difference between healthy boundaries and emotional avoidance, and what may be happening beneath the surface when conflict, accountability, vulnerability, or disappointment makes you want to shut down, disconnect, or leave. Because every uncomfortable conversation isn’t unsafe. Every disagreement isn’t disrespect. Every person who challenges you isn’t necessarily toxic. If you’ve become good at protecting your peace but you’re beginning to wonder whether some of that protection has also made it harder to communicate, repair and/or maintain healthy relationships/friendships, tolerate healthy conflict, or remain emotionally present, this conversation is for you. The question I want you to sit with is simple: Am I protecting myself from harm or from discomfort? Press play. We have some things to unpack. #healthyboundaries #emotionalavoidance #healingwork #mentalhealthpodcast #podcastforwomen #protectyourpeace

EP 153 | Who or What May Be Guiding Your Decisions

Have you ever been faced with a decision and found yourself wondering: is this God, is this fear, is this my intuition, or is an old trauma response speaking louder than I realize? Sometimes the hardest part about figuring out your next move isn’t a lack of options. It’s learning how to recognize what’s actually guiding you. Maybe you’ve said, “I just don’t have peace about it.” Maybe something felt off, so you assumed it was discernment. Maybe you’ve been protecting yourself from something (or someone) that genuinely isn’t right for you. Or maybe fear, anxiety, hypervigilance, childhood trauma, or an old survival pattern has been influencing your decisions in ways you haven’t recognized yet. And here’s where it gets interesting: what feels familiar can sometimes feel safe, even when it isn’t healthy. And what feels uncomfortable isn’t always wrong. Sometimes it’s simply unfamiliar. In this episode, I want to help you slow everything down and take a closer look at what may be happening beneath the surface when you’re trying to make an important decision. We’re talking about faith, fear, spiritual discernment, intuition, trauma responses, hypervigilance, self-trust, childhood messages, emotional healing, and the uncomfortable process of becoming someone your past didn’t necessarily prepare you to be. Because sometimes you’re not confused about the decision. You’re experiencing a conflict between the person you’ve had to be and the person you are now. So before you automatically follow the fear, before you call it discernment, before you decide you’re “protecting your peace,” and before you allow an old experience to make a new decision for you, I want you to ask yourself a different question: What part of me is actually making this decision? If you’re navigating a major life transition, questioning your next move, rebuilding self-trust, healing from childhood trauma, or simply trying to understand yourself more deeply, this healing conversation is for you. Press play. We have some things to unpack. EP 151 | Who Told You That You Were Too Much? (The Names We Were Given Before We Knew Ourselves)

Have you ever been called too much, too sensitive, difficult, bossy, emotional, needy, or different? Did you ever stop to consider how those words may have shaped the way you learned to see yourself? Because sometimes a label doesn't stay a label. Sometimes it becomes a belief. And before you realize it, that belief is influencing the way you communicate, set boundaries, navigate relationships, make decisions, and even introduce yourself to yourself. This week, I'm taking you back to little Carla playing school, reflecting on celebrating my 42nd birthday in Cozumel, Mexico, and sharing a question I haven't been able to stop thinking about: Who did you decide you were because of what happened to you? We're talking about the names we were given before we knew ourselves, the patterns we may still be living from, and what can happen when we finally slow down long enough to separate who we are from what we learned to believe. And don't worry, we're not rewriting all of our childhood behavior into misunderstood greatness. Some of us absolutely needed to sit down somewhere. But I do believe correction and curiosity can exist in the same room. By the end of this conversation, you may find yourself questioning a name you've been answering to for years.🌱 Resources Mentioned: Grown Woman Talk Book- Dr. Sharon MaloneHealing Conversations Community (HCC) Schedule a Consultation with Me Today!Schedule Your 1:1 Coaching SessionJoin Me on Substack Connect with Carla: Facebook Instagram YouTube #healingconversations #innerchildhealing #consciousness #personalgrowth #healingjourney #healingpodcast

EP 149 | How Spiritual Bypassing Affects Love, Growth & Communication

Have you ever felt like you were doing all the right things spiritually, praying, staying positive, going to church, encouraging others, quoting scripture, yet still finding yourself emotionally triggered, disconnected, overwhelmed, anxious, emotionally reactive, or repeating the same unhealthy patterns in your relationships? In this week’s episode, we're unpacking the reality of spiritual bypassing and how many people unknowingly use spirituality, positivity, or avoidance to suppress unresolved hurt, trauma, disappointment, fear, and emotional pain instead of truly healing it. I want to help you understand why unprocessed emotions don’t simply disappear and how avoiding difficult conversations, emotional honesty, accountability, and vulnerability can quietly damage your communication, relationships, emotional growth, and even your connection with yourself. We’re diving into the difference between genuine healing and emotional suppression, why awareness is the first step toward transformation, and how unresolved pain often disguises itself as anger, emotional shutdown, people-pleasing, distance, or frustration. If you’ve been struggling to identify what’s really happening beneath the surface emotionally, feeling stuck in cycles you can’t seem to break, or trying to appear strong while silently carrying emotional weight, this episode will help you slow down, become more emotionally aware, and begin confronting the root instead of simply managing the symptoms. This conversation is honest, therapeutic, eye-opening, and deeply necessary for anyone desiring healthier communication, deeper emotional healing, stronger relationships, and authentic personal growth.
