Episode 10: DM Rolls — Behind the Screen vs. On the Table (and MORE!)

NEWSFLASH! Sometimes DMs fudge rolls. But should they? And if so, how much can a DM fudge before the rolls become meaningless? We discuss the idea of making every roll visible to the player and why most DMs still choose to keep some rolls hidden.  We also chat about what race/class would famous characters in fiction be! Is Batman an Inquisitor Rogue? A Way of Shadows Monk? An Artificer? WHO KNOWS?! We get to the bottom of it. Or try to.

Episode 9: Our Favorite Party Roles

Strikers! Tanks! Healers! Casters! So many choices when building a new character. What do you choose? We run through our favorite classes and party roles, bearing in mind that there are NO WRONG ANSWERS! It's all about preference. But if you've only ever played strikers, maybe this episode will convince you to try a caster for your next character. Who knows?

Episode 8: Creating Cool Combat Encounters

Combat is the meat and potatoes of D&D, and just like meat and potatoes, it can be bland if you don't add spice. The right combination of monsters can add flavor to an encounter, but there are tons of other ingredients you can toss into your battle stew. In this episode, we cover a few tasty tricks to enrich your combat experiences. (Sorry, I was hungry when I wrote this). Also, we said we would mention in the show notes the name of the person who developed the West Marches style of campaign. It's Ben Robbins. At least, that is what I was able to dig up on Google.

Episode 7: Testing Maurice's New Character (Not a High Elf Fighter)

Last week, we built Maurice a new level 1 character, busting him out of the high elf fighter rut. Today, we test it in combat against some goblins! How will this new character fare against the GOBSLAUGHT?!

Episode 6: Making a New Character (for Maurice) - Part 2

Maurice has basically only ever played High Elves and 90% of them are fighters. We bust him out of this rut, first by selecting a race (in episode 5), and then choosing a class (this episode).

Episode 5: Making a New Character (for Maurice) - Part 1

Maurice has basically only ever played High Elves and 90% of them are fighters. We bust him out of this rut, first by selecting a race, and then choosing a class (next episode).

Episode 4: The OP Party and DRAGON-CHAT!

Maurice asked, "What would happen if an entire party was overpowered?" Sam and Lawson answer, sort of, and then move on to discuss DRAGONS! Which is what anyone would want.

    Episode 3: Modules vs. Homebrew

In D&D, modules are like the Ikea furniture of adventures. They're out-of-the-box campaigns you can run your party through, and they generally do a pretty good job. But sometimes theres a few screws missing, and even if there isn't, it's not quite as rewarding as building something from scratch. However, there's nothing that says you can't toss out parts of the instructions and assemble the module however you want—by adding some homebrew. (Note: do not throw out the instructions for your Ikea furniture, unless you want your Morabo to come out lookin' like an Ektorp).

Episode 2: Starting a New Campaign

Starting a new campaign can seem daunting. You've got to build the world, fill it with characters, create stakes, and do it in a way that your players can navigate without getting confused (because you know those idiots aren't taking reliable notes). Hear from three drunk fools about how they've kicked off campaigns in the past, and learn from their foibles. Hey, if they can do it, anyone can.

    Episode 1: Murder Hobos

Welcome to Your Drunk DM! The podcast where three friends who used to do comedy and still play DND talk about all the ways you can make your game more fun. This week, we're talking about Murder Hobos. You know Murder Hobos. They're players who hate all the fun parts of the game and instead, decide to just kill everything in their path and complain when you change their alignment to Evil. They suck, but we still hang out with them. So what do you do?! Listen to the podcast to (maybe) find out. Love you!
