The Thin Air Podcast is an episodic anthology of short stories, novellas and poems, including fantasy, science fiction, suspense, thrillers and the macabre. Featuring tales penned and narrated by Lonsdale, this program could be described as a fascinating blend of audiobook and modern-day old-time radio. Episodes are presented as dramatic readings with background sound F/X and original music. The premiere episode, titled “The Uncanny Valley of the Shadow,” is the opening chapter, kicking off what I hope will be a long-running and eagerly anticipated theater of the imagination.

Acting under the looming threat of collapse, Hitler’s war machine pulled out all the stops, dabbling in sciences that were, in some cases, more arcane than technological. New weapons, born out of the fiery, half-crazed fever of imminent defeat were many times derived from nightmare pseudoscience, theories largely based on legend or even folklore. Die Gloche, The Bell, is one such conspiracy theory, whispered stories drifting out of the fog-shrouded darkness, deep in the misty forests still occupied by the third reich. Under cover of a vast canopy of tangled branches, experiments were carried out, proof of concept forever lost inside a file cabinet labeled Top Secret, somewhere locked in a hermetically sealed vacuum of thin air.

    In the midst of raucous musket and cannon fire exchanged between north and south during the infamous Battle of Bull Run, Union Army Soldier Ezekiel Ambrose decides that he no longer wishes to stand, fight and potentially die for the cause. Quietly wandering away from the carnage down the middle of a shallow stream, he encounters what he refers to as a traverse, a bizarre, glowing gateway leading out to who knows where. From one battlefield to another, this Parlour Soldier discovers that the act of walking away from a fight doesn’t necessarily lead to an end of the bloodshed.
