S2 E7. From an Evening with Iliza Schlesinger to Raising Kids: Barb and Beth Discuss

Welcome back to We’re Not Your Mothers with Barb and Beth! Today, we are still riding a bit of a high from seeing the lovely and hilarious Iliza Shlesinger live and in-person. Iliza is a comedian and if you haven’t seen or heard of her, we highly recommend checking her out or reading her book. In fact, our very own Beth O’Heir got to do a meet-n-greet with the comedian and while Beth’s daughter might have been embarrassed by her mother, it’s always great to meet someone you admire. Of course, it’s not all fun and games because, in this episode, Barb will also share some obstacles she’s been facing at work. Besides this, we’ll discuss helping kids who are struggling in school, whether it’s beneficial to allow your kids to fail at certain things, and parents who continuously try to get their kids out of things whether it be detention or classes they dislike. Throughout the episode, we’ll also reminisce about when our own children were in school and what we did or didn’t do to help them through. Keep listening to hear stories of snow ball fights, police visits, sports teams, and so much more. We’re Not Your Mothers with Barb and Beth is a podcast featuring over 80 years of adulting experience. While we don’t have all the answers, we encourage you to email us at wearenotyourmothers@gmail.com with any questions or problems that you can’t take to your own mother, father, or peer group. We look forward to hearing from you and remember to always be kind, trust your gut, and check back for new episodes of our podcast every other Wednesday!

Welcome to We’re Not Your Mothers with Barb and Beth! Today, we are so happy to be back and updating you on some of the things going on in our lives lately. From Las Vegas trips to book clubs and bad habits, we’ll let you in on what we’ve been up to while sharing some funny stories from our past. Besides this, we’ll, of course, be offering our advice on some of your questions including whether a woman should change her last name after getting married and what to do about your kids’ last names. Should you hyphenate? What if the kids kept their mom’s maiden name? What about using their mother’s maiden name as their middle names? We’ll discuss! In addition, we’ll also chat a bit about pronouns and how it really doesn’t hurt to try your best to get it right. While changing how you speak and think is difficult, it’s important to remember that it’s everyone’s right to choose how they’d like to be referred to. Welcome back to another episode of We’re Not Your Mothers with Barb and Beth! Before we get into today's listener questions, we are bringing back the much talked-about restaurant debate from our last episode. If you haven’t listened yet, please go back and take a listen, let us know who you think is right in this situation, and of course, have a good laugh. Now that that’s settled and we can agree to disagree, in this episode, we’ll also discuss the different obstacles young people face today including the price of homes, how you should treat step-grandchildren, and the nuances of being a stay-at-home mother. Besides this, we’ll also share our opinions on having sex on the first date, uninviting family members to your wedding because of a very cruel ‘joke’, and relationship dealbreakers. Would you tolerate name-calling or mean comments? Keep listening to hear our thoughts on these topics and so much more! Enjoy!
