    Episode 335- Burros 2.0- The Acts of the Apostles- Part 4

    In Part 4 of our continuing study through the Book of Acts, the Burros of Berea dive into Acts Chapter 2 and the extraordinary events surrounding the Day of Pentecost! What was the significance of the mighty rushing wind, the tongues of fire, and the disciples suddenly speaking in languages they had never learned? Could Pentecost represent a reversal of the Tower of Babel? We explore the connection between God's breath of life in Genesis, Jesus breathing upon His disciples in John 20, and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Along the way, we investigate the Feast of Weeks, the gathering of Jews from throughout the nations, and the remarkable transformation of Peter from a fearful disciple into a bold preacher of the gospel. The conversation becomes especially fascinating when Peter declares, "This is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel." What did Peter mean by identifying these events with the "last days"? Were these the last days of the physical world, or the closing days of the Old Covenant age? Our group examines Joel's prophecy, the significance of the coming judgment upon Jerusalem, and Peter's use of the Psalms to proclaim Christ's resurrection and heavenly enthronement. We also consider passages from Isaiah, Zechariah, Hebrews, and other biblical writings as we investigate how the apostles understood the fulfillment of prophecy. As always, expect thoughtful questions, spirited discussion, plenty of laughter, and a genuine commitment to studying the Scriptures together... even when we don't agree on every detail!

    Episode 334- Burros 2.0- Acts of the Apostles- Part 3

    We're back with Part 3 of our study through the Book of Acts on The Burros of Berea 2.0! This week, we pick up in Acts 1:12–26, where the apostles return to Jerusalem following the ascension of Jesus and gather together in prayer. But things get really interesting when Peter stands up and declares that the Scriptures had to be fulfilled concerning Judas and his betrayal of Christ. We take a deep dive into the Old Testament to examine the remarkable parallels between Judas and Ahithophel, the trusted counselor who betrayed King David during Absalom's rebellion. We even travel further back into Genesis to examine Judah's betrayal of his brother Joseph. Could these events be connected through a recurring biblical pattern? Along the way, we explore Psalm 41, Psalm 69, and Psalm 109, asking how Peter and the apostles understood these ancient writings and recognized their fulfillment in the events surrounding Jesus. Then we turn our attention to the selection of Matthias as the replacement for Judas, and things take another fascinating turn! Why does Luke identify the other candidate by three names: Joseph, Barsabbas, and Justus? Could those names carry significance in relation to the Great Commission and the spreading of the gospel from Jerusalem to the ends of the earth? We explore that possibility while making room for some good old-fashioned speculation! We also discuss the casting of lots, the qualifications for apostleship, and where Paul fits into the picture. Toward the end, our conversation shifts to a challenging question about the disciples' understanding of the Kingdom of God. Were they still expecting a physical restoration of Israel even after Jesus' resurrection? And perhaps the biggest question of the evening is this: How did the apostles know which Old Testament passages were being fulfilled when those passages originally appeared to concern entirely different historical circumstances? It's another lively conversation filled with Scripture, questions, laughter, and a few unexpected rabbit trails. Join us for Part 3 as we continue digging into the Book of Acts!

    Episode 333- The Acts of the Apostles- Part 2

    We're back with another episode of The Burros of Berea 2.0! This week, the Burros continue their journey through the Book of Acts, beginning with the opening verses of chapter one. We explore Jesus' final instructions to His apostles, the promised coming of the Holy Spirit, and the transition from the Old Covenant to the New. We examine the promises found in Joel, Ezekiel, and the Gospel of John, asking how the outpouring of the Spirit connects to the establishment of God's kingdom and the mission of the early church. The conversation really takes off when we reach the ascension of Jesus in Acts 1:9–11! What does it mean that a cloud received Him out of their sight? Could this event be connected to Daniel 7:13 and the Son of Man approaching the Ancient of Days? And what are we to make of the two mysterious men dressed in white who announce that Jesus will return in the same manner? The Burros explore Old Testament cloud imagery, the Transfiguration, the two witnesses, and even the cherubim guarding the Garden of Eden and the Holy of Holies. With plenty of questions, differing perspectives, and our usual Burros banter, this episode reminds us just how much there is to discover when we slow down and examine the Scriptures together.     In this episode we learn of what happened to the leaders of NXIVM and their sentences. We also listen to the survivors and their families. This trial and the investigators who gathered the evidence utilize all that they learn to make adjustments to law enforcement and judicial laws. Then we look at the most obvious questions, how did this happen, will this happen again, and most importantly, can it happen to anyone?

    After a few whistleblowers from inside NXIVM go public, the pieces the Federal government needed to take down the cult come into place. This is about the intuitive FBI special agent, Michael Lever, who was able to connect the dots on their enterprise, as well as the Assistant U.S. Attorney, Moira Penza, who singlehandedly prosecuted NXIVM by trying it as a RICO case, much like she had with the Mafia earlier in her career, causing it to be the only case like it in U.S. history.
