Walking The Walk: Change for the Better

Charissa McKay

Welcome to Walking the Walk: Change for the Better a podcast about how changing your perspectives can lead to a better life if you let it. The things that I encounter in my job as a Health Promoter, a solo parent of a queer/non-binary/ADHD teenager and a partner trying to make long distance love work, all impact how I make my way through the world and sometimes that journey is in need of an improvement. If this sounds relatable, then hopefully the lessons I learn along those different paths, as I'm walking the walk will be too. We are all walking alongside each other, and if we can learn from one another along the way, it will have been a journey well spent.

    Indiana? Let It Go…

Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! When you think about control, what do you think about? How much you control? How little you control? How you wish you had more control? Well, if that's the case, welcome to the club! In this episode I take a look at what control is in theory and how chasing it when we should or shouldn't will determine how stressed you feel, how satisfied you feel or more appropriately, how crappy you might be feeling because you are choosing poorly, to quote the knight in that episode of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - more on that in the episode. Changing that is really at the heart of this and hopefully you'll be able to relate.  Songs featured in this episode: Control - Janet Jackson Solsbury Hill - Peter Gabriel Shake it Out - Florence and the Machine Dog Days are Over - Florence and the Machine Listen wherever you get your podcasts - you can find us on Podcast Addict, Podchaser, Pocket Casts, Deezer, Player FM, Tune-In and of course Spotify, Google Player and Apple Podcasts - where if you can leave a comment or throw me some ideas of topics you'd like to hear about, that would be great.  Walking The Walk is written, recorded and produced by me - Charissa McKay (aka CharCharBinx) in my awesome basement home office/studio/craft room on Treaty 6 lands known originally as amiskwaciy-wâskahikan, meaning Beaver Hill House, in Nehiyawewin (Cree). There are other names, equally as meaningful, and I am grateful to those who were here before me, for the ability to call this place my home.  Thanks for listening - follow me on Instagram @CharChar_bincks

    Time

Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! First of all - Happy Canada Day and to our American friends, early, happy 4th of July! Second of all - how often do you think about time? All the time? Never? Well, here's my take on time and how while it isn't something we should obsess over, it is probably something that we should take as good care of as we do our investments or our pensions. It's a pretty valuable resource, so it should be stewarded as such.  Songs featured in this episode: Time - Hootie and the Blowfish Every Breath You Take - The Police Time Canon - Triumph Mr. Roboto - Styx Time - Pink Floyd Another Brick in the Wall Pt 2 - Pink Floyd (don't know why Spotify doesn't have a not live one...) The Times They Are a Changin'

Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! Certain songs are just iconic and their messages timeless - and that was the impetus for this episode. I talk a lot about change and how it's inevitable, and not always what we want, but that we need to accept it. But we can also impact it - we can push for the right and good things and fight agains oppression or cruelty or yes - stupidity. I bring in thoughts from a number of previous episodes but also wonder why things are the way they are (old habits die hard).  What are your thoughts on the state of the world and the changes that are happening? The Ecological Model - Primer Songs featured in this episode are: Fight the Power - Public Enemy Mercy, Mercy Me - Marvin Gaye Talkin' About a Revolution - Tracy Chapman A Change is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke Redemption Song - Bob Marley and the Wailers American Idiot - Green Day The Times They Are A-Changin' - Bob Dylan Listen wherever you get your podcasts - you can find us on Podcast Addict, Podchaser, Pocket Casts, Deezer, Player FM, Tune-In and of course Spotify, Google Player and Apple Podcasts - where if you can leave a comment or throw me some ideas of topics you'd like to hear about, that would be great. Out with the Old??

Have thoughts or ideas? Please share here! Out with the old, in with the new. Everyone has heard that saying. And there are merits to it for sure. It's good to go through things, make sure that you have what you want and need and not a lot of extraneous stuff. But how do you get there? What's the process? Three boxes: keep, donate, toss? How often do you do it? And is there such a thing as mental spring cleaning? What kinds of junk in the attic between our ears should be regularly disposed of? As a result of a weird kind of writer's block...these were the questions being pondered. Can you relate to any of it? How do you tackle spring cleaning? Songs featured in this episode: He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother - the Hollies Memories - Maroon 5 Changes - David Bowie If you want to sign the petition to save the Casavant Pipe-organ you can do that here Please sign and share...it's a rare and wonderful instrument and deserves to continue to grace Convocation Hall!
