Episode 64. Nick Moss - Why your symptoms aren't the problem - your nervous system is

In this episode, I'm joined by returning guest Nick Moss from Functional Neuro Health — a practitioner, educator, and mentor in the functional neurology space. Last on the podcast around five years ago, Nick and I dive deep into the nervous system's role in health, performance, and healing. From how stress creates "noise" in the system to why your symptoms aren't the real problem, this is a conversation about understanding what's actually driving your body, your emotions, and your capacity to handle life. Here are some key points from this episode: The nervous system as the modulator of homeostasis — its primary role is to keep you alive and safeCapacity vs Resilience — why capacity (moving through something without losing your centre) is a more useful framework than resilienceStress comes from open loops — unresolved traumas, experiences, and even uncompleted tasks drain your battery over timeThe "current of injury" — how physical, emotional, and biochemical injuries all create noise in the nervous systemFunctional neurology — filling the gap between what shows up on scans and what patients are actually experiencingHow the physiological effects of a concussion mirror the physiological effects of traumaThe fighter story — MMA fighter who came in for concussion recovery and ended up performing better than everEmotions as a tripwire — the puppies vs. empty bank account demonstration showing how your mind instantly categorizes stimuli as threat or non-threatThe "Allow" process — noticing triggers, feeling the emotion in the body, and allowing the sensation to be there instead of pushing it downThe performance iceberg — behavior and results are just the tip; thoughts, emotions, sensations, and physiology are what drive everything underneathI hope you all enjoy this conversation. There's so much value in understanding what's happening beneath the surface of your symptoms and seeing the nervous system as the foundation of both healing and performance. I'm super grateful to have you all here and excited to be continuing to learn and grow. Let's keep exploring the human experience and growing as people. See you on the next episode! Episode 63. Ella Adams - Following Your Inner Voice

In this episode, I'm joined by returning guest Ella Adams — my first guest interview in over a year! Last on the podcast back in episode 47, Ella and I catch up on everything that's unfolded over the past two years. From interstate moves and career pivots to deep inner work, consciousness exploration, and healing — it's a conversation about following your intuition, even when the logical mind doesn't understand it yet. Here are some key points from this episode: Ella's move from Adelaide to the Gold Coast — following an inner voice and starting fresh with no planThe "ladder against the wrong wall" analogy — knowing when to climb down and find a new pathHow travel and changing your environment creates space for self-discoveryGolf's lasting impact on both of our lives and the lessons it taught usElla's journey from teaching yoga to studying under Paul Chek and the Chek InstituteNavigating chronic pain — the connection between emotions and the physical bodyNervous system regulation — fight or flight vs rest and digestThe Gateway Experience from the Monroe Institute — Brainwave states and altered consciousnessManifestation practice — writing intentions as affirmations and recording them for morning and night listeningTai Chi, heart-centered meditation, and tuning into your inner guidanceDavid Hawkins' books — Letting Go and Power vs Force"You are not your thoughts" — being the witness to your mind, not the thoughts themselvesLetting go of the victim mindset and taking ownership of your frequencyElla starting to see clients — posture correction, breathwork, and holistic health for womenI hope you all enjoy this conversation. There's so much value in following those inner nudges, questioning what you believe is normal, and giving yourself the space to listen. I'm super grateful to have you all here and excited to be back on this journey. Let's keep exploring the human experience and growing as people. See you on the next episode!
