I Could Complain, But God, I Thank You

What happens when your morning starts going completely different from the way you planned? After my workout, I was already pressed for time trying to wash and dry my clothes, get home, shower, get dressed, eat, and make it to my 9:00 a.m. hair appointment. Then the washing machine decided it didn't want to cooperate. Immediately, I started calculating, rearranging, rushing—and getting frustrated. But somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, I caught myself. I could feel myself getting ready to complain, and instead, I shifted. God, I thank You. I thanked God that I was physically able to move as quickly as I was moving. I thanked Him that I could dress myself, feed myself, drive myself where I needed to go, and that I was clothed in my right mind. The circumstances hadn't changed yet—but my perspective had. And then, right when I thought I was running out of time, my hairstylist texted me that she was running 15 minutes late—the extra time I needed to make another stop and get my clothes into a working washing machine. Sometimes the lesson isn't that everything will go according to our plans. Sometimes the lesson is learning how to respond when it doesn't. In this episode, I'm talking about interrupting complaints with gratitude, turning frustration into prayer, trusting God when plans change, and recognizing that an inconvenience doesn't have to determine your attitude. I could complain. But God, I thank You. 🙌🏾 Nothing had changed yet. The clothes still weren't washed. I was still pressed for time. But I changed what was coming out of my mouth.”

I Thought I Was Just Taking Grandma to the Doctor

What started as a simple trip to take my 85-year-old grandmother to a doctor's appointment became a morning I'll never forget. Growing up, my grandmother and I weren't particularly close. As a child, I even carried the belief that another grandchild was her favorite. Later in life, we experienced conflict that created even more distance between us. But that wasn't the end of our story. Years later, our relationship looks completely different. On the way to her appointment, we began talking about God, prayer, faith, and the power of believing God even when you can't see what He's doing. As I listened to my grandmother talk about how strongly she believes in prayer, I realized something: I have that same kind of faith. The faith she was describing sounded just like mine. And on the ride home, there we were—grandmother and granddaughter—singing worship songs together. After I dropped her off and told her I loved her, gratitude overwhelmed me. I thanked God that my grandmother is still here. I thanked Him that at 85 years old she's still able to get up, move around, talk about God, sing worship songs, and spend a morning with me. But I also thanked God that I was physically able and willing to show up for her. Sometimes we don't recognize the significance of a moment until we're driving away from it. This episode is about family, reconciliation, serving the people we love while they're still here, generational faith, and learning to appreciate the ordinary moments that may one day become some of our most precious memories. I thought I was just taking Grandma to the doctor. God knew He was giving me something much greater.
