Ep09- Mental Health & Marriage Part 2: Things That Have Helped

In Part 2 of our series on Marriage & Mental Health, TJ discusses some of the things that have helped him manage and even thrive in his battle with anxiety and depression. No one tool works 100% of the time in this struggle and that is why it is so important to put as many tools as you can in the toolbox. Hopefully you will find some useful tools in this episode.  1. Exercise/Diet/Sleep 2. Having something tangible to look forward to; SERVE others 3. Do not isolate- You are at your weakest when you are alone and isolated. Force yourself to be around those you love and those who love you on a regular basis. Open up to them about your struggle. 4. Go see a counselor. 5. Lean into God through constant prayer and reading of His Word. Philippians 4:6-7- 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 1 Peter 5:6-7- 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. Romans 8:18- 18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 6. Get Divine Perspective: Choose to believe that God has a purpose for your pain. 2 Corinthians 12:7b-10 Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my   power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18- 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. We hope you enjoy this episode and that God is able to use it to help you or someone you love in one way or another. Ep06- Where Should You Be?

In this episode we discuss the importance of making sure you are where you are supposed to be and how it can protect (and potentially save) your marriage.   Being where you are supposed to be includes…   -Being a man/woman of your word and having integrity.  -Being present and taking care of the responsibilities God has given you.  -Not allowing yourself to be alone with members of the opposite sex.  -Not interacting with exes or any member of the opposite sex inappropriately on social media or through text.  -Not visiting sexually explicit or even sexually suggestive websites.   If you find yourself somewhere you shouldn’t be or doing something you shouldn’t be doing…  1. Stop IMMEDIATELY.  2. Confess to God and ask for His help to stop.  3. Confess to someone you can trust and who you know loves you (ideally your spouse).  4. Forgive yourself and ask God for the strength and courage to deal with whatever consequences you may face as a result of your sin.    Our Bible verses for this episode are…    2 Samuel 11:1- In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.   *Do yourself a favor and read the whole story of David’s life in the books of 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel.    James 5:16- Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.   Thank you so much for taking the time to listen, subscribe, and share. If you have any questions related to marriage or have a topic you would like us to discuss in a future episode, please email us at ImperfectMarriage23@gmail.com or DM us on Instagram @Imperfect_Marriage.    Thank you and may God Bless your Imperfect Marriage and family.

    Ep02- Pyramid Scheme Divorce?

In this episode we kickoff a series on finances in marriage. We will address questions like, “What would we say is the most important practice when it comes to finances in marriage?” We will also discuss a couple times when we were not on on the same page financially and how God walked us through those instances.    Our Bible verse for this episode is…  1 Corinthians 1:10- I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.    We mentioned how blessed and grateful were are for having been introduced to Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU) when we were engaged. We cannot recommend this course highly enough for anyone interested in taking control of their finances, getting out of debt, and building wealth in order to “live and give like no one else.”    Click the below to learn more FPU and sign up for a class.  https://www.ramseysolutions.com/ramseyplus/financial-peace/class  We will spend the next few episodes outlining our financial goals and priorities.    If you have any questions or prayer requests or if there is a topic that you would like us to do a future episode on, please email us at ImperfectMarriage23@gmail.com or direct message us on Instagram @Imperfect_Marriage.
