Ep 17 Alcohol Freedom with Beth Bowen

I am so excited to welcome Beth Bowen to the podcast this week. Beth Bowen is a therapist by trade, now helping sober-curious and alcohol-free women through group and private coaching. Beth is also founder of Sober Stories, a multimedia platform dedicated to transformation through really great storytelling. With four years of sobriety from alcohol, Beth's mission is to broaden our understanding of Alcohol Use Disorder and end the women's health crisis that is alcohol use. She lives outside of Austin, TX, with her husband and two boys, and you can usually find her drinking a Topo Chico. Beth is raw and honest about her journey to an alcohol free lifestyle and how she now uses that to help other women do the same. Key Moments: >>Breaking away from the stigma that labels such as alcoholic, sober, addiction can have >> Looking at alcohol misuse through the lense of being on a spectrum, instead of so black and white >>Alcohol is an easy coping mechanism when things in your life are hard >> Pivotal moment when Beth realized that alcohol was no longer friend >>Moderation techniques did not work for Beth >> The power of inner knowing and self awareness >> Willpower has very little to do with whether or not you can give up alcohol >> Why moms can begin to develop an unhealthy relationship with alcohol, because they are doing so much and just do not have the capacity to make any sort of sustainable changes >>Building blocks to get to a space to make sustainable change: reduce your mental load, take things off your plate, ask for help, eating energy giving foods, moving your body >>One day at a time >>You don’t have to be in addiction to choose to change your relationship with alcohol >> A few signs that may indicate you have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol Follow Beth Here: @bethbowen_ Free Workshop: Navigating Sobriety Follow me on IG: @meglafferty26
