Moving Forward: Finding Strength Through Life's Obstacles, with Michaelbrent Collings

In this inspiring episode of 5 Minutes of Peace, international bestselling author and screenwriter Michaelbrent Collings shares a deeply personal story of resilience, reminding us that obstacles don't have to define our future. Michael recounts the unexpected twists in his own journey — from leaving a successful legal career to care for his wife during a serious illness, to rebuilding his life as a writer after losing his job during an economic downturn. Along the way, he also faced profound personal challenges, including major depression, suicidal thoughts, psychotic episodes, and even waking one morning unable to move from the neck down. Despite these hardships, he continued creating, writing, and finding purpose. Rather than offering shortcuts to success, Michael shares three practical principles that have helped him continue moving forward. First, he encourages us to focus not on being the most successful person in the room, but on being the kindest and most professional. Kindness builds relationships, creates opportunities, and leaves a lasting impact far beyond any achievement. His second lesson is to embrace curiosity. Michael believes one of life's greatest strengths is the willingness to admit, "I don't know," and then ask questions with genuine interest. By remaining open to learning, we continue to grow, adapt, and discover possibilities we might otherwise miss. Finally, he reminds us of the importance of surrounding ourselves with supportive people—and becoming that source of encouragement for others. In difficult seasons, a caring community can make all the difference, offering strength, perspective, and hope when we need it most. Michael closes with an uplifting reminder: you've already overcome more than you may realize, and with perseverance, kindness, curiosity, and support, you are capable of going even farther. About Today's GuestMichaelbrent Collings is an international bestselling author, award-winning screenwriter, and speaker known for his suspense novels, screenplays, and inspiring message of perseverance. Through his writing and personal story, he encourages others to navigate adversity with courage, compassion, and lifelong curiosity. Designing Your Life from Within, by Jazz Musician John Novello

In this episode of 5 Minutes of Peace, acclaimed jazz keyboardist, composer, author, and mentor John Novello reflects on the remarkable journey that led him from a small-town musician to performing alongside some of the biggest names in contemporary music — and the inner guidance that shaped every step along the way. John shares stories from a career that includes serving as musical director for A Taste of Honey, performing with legendary artists such as Al Jarreau, The Manhattan Transfer, Donna Summer, and Rita Coolidge, and discovering that success is often born from unexpected moments. A chance snowstorm in Erie, Pennsylvania, brought a renowned record producer into the lounge where John's band happened to be performing, resulting in his first record deal. Although that opportunity unexpectedly dissolved, John explains how what felt like failure ultimately redirected him toward an even greater purpose. Throughout the episode, John encourages listeners to trust the subtle guidance of intuition. He recalls a vivid childhood memory at just three years old when an inner voice prompted him toward music—an experience he now recognizes as the beginning of a lifelong relationship with what he calls "The Invisible Architect." Rather than seeing intuition as something mystical or reserved for a select few, John describes it as the quiet wisdom that continually guides us toward our life's purpose. Whether we call it our higher self, divine guidance, or inner knowing, he believes this voice is always inviting us to become the fullest expression of who we were created to be. John also explores one of the central ideas from his bestselling book: that lasting change begins within. Instead of focusing on changing external circumstances, he encourages us to examine our thoughts, beliefs, and inner dialogue. As our inner world changes, our outer world naturally begins to reflect it. The episode concludes with an invitation to pay closer attention to those moments of intuition, curiosity, and inspiration that often appear throughout our lives. They may be pointing us toward a path we haven't yet imagined—but one that has been waiting for us all along. Changing the Story You Tell Yourself, by the late Dr. James Doty

In this episode, renowned neurosurgeon, author, and compassion researcher the late Dr. James Doty shares the remarkable true story that changed the course of his life. (He shared his story in an interview with Mark in 2020.) Growing up in difficult circumstances, Dr. Doty recalls being a 12-year-old boy filled with anger, fear, and hopelessness, convinced he had no future. Everything began to change one summer afternoon when he wandered into a small magic shop and met an extraordinary woman whose kindness would alter his life's direction. She greeted him with a genuine smile, treated him with dignity, and created a sense of psychological safety that allowed him to be seen—not as a troubled child, but as someone with unlimited potential. Over the following six weeks, she introduced him to practices that were virtually unknown in the West at the time: mindfulness, self-compassion, and the power of reshaping the stories we tell ourselves. Dr. Doty explains that our minds naturally cling to negative experiences, creating an inner narrative that can limit our lives. By learning to replace thoughts like "I'm not good enough" with beliefs rooted in self-worth and possibility, he began to see both himself and the world differently. He describes how changing his inner dialogue transformed every aspect of his future—from believing he could attend college and medical school to becoming a Stanford neurosurgeon, entrepreneur, founder of Stanford University's Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, and author of the bestselling memoir Into the Magic Shop. Throughout the conversation, Dr. Doty reminds us that mindfulness and self-compassion are not simply feel-good practices—they literally help us access our innate capacity for resilience, purpose, and connection. As we become kinder to ourselves, we begin to recognize that everyone carries a story, everyone experiences suffering, and everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive. He closes with a powerful reminder that each of us has the opportunity, every single day, to make one person's life a little better. Dr. James R. Doty was a neurosurgeon, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. He founded the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford, an internationally recognized center exploring the science of compassion, mindfulness, and human flourishing. His bestselling memoir, Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon's Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart, has inspired readers around the world with its message that compassion, intention, and self-belief can transform lives. Although Dr. Doty has since passed away, his work continues to influence medicine, neuroscience, education, and the growing field of compassion research. The Mirror Meditation: Awakening Presence Through Your Own Reflection, with Michael Monk

In this contemplative episode of 5 Minutes of Peace, spiritual teacher Michael Monk introduces listeners to one of the foundational practices from his Awakening Course — a meditation he calls The Mirror Meditation. Michael explains that we are all reflections of one another, making every encounter an opportunity for greater self-awareness. In this guided practice, he invites listeners to use his face as a mirror, gently focusing on both of his eyes with equal attention. This balanced way of seeing is designed to quiet mental activity, harmonize the brain's two hemispheres, and encourage a deeper state of presence. As the meditation unfolds, participants may notice subtle shifts in perception. Some experience changes in light, color, or the appearance of an aura. Others may observe facial features seeming to soften, change, or even dissolve. Michael emphasizes that these experiences are simply invitations to relax, remain present, and become more aware of the energy that surrounds us. Perhaps the most meaningful part of the practice comes after the meditation itself. Michael encourages listeners to repeat the exercise while looking into their own reflection. By meeting ourselves with openness instead of judgment, we begin to cultivate a deeper relationship with our own inner wisdom and intuition. His closing reminder is both simple and profound: "Remember to love what you see." It is an invitation to approach ourselves with compassion, curiosity, and acceptance—recognizing that peace begins by seeing ourselves with new eyes. About Today's GuestMichael Monk has been teaching spirituality, metaphysics, and energy mastery since 2011. The Soul Cleansing Breath, with Luminara

In this episode of 5 Minutes of Peace, spiritual teacher and meditation guide Luminara leads listeners through a deeply restorative visualization known as the Soul Cleansing Breath. This simple yet profound practice is designed to help release tension, restore inner balance, and cultivate a sense of peace that extends beyond ourselves into the world around us. TCOInfinity.com https://www.youtube.com/@thecentreofinfinity5865 https://www.facebook.com/thecentreofinfinity IG: @Luminaraesthercylne Luminara introduces the concept of Clear Light — a state of pure, balanced awareness that exists beyond the polarity of light and darkness. Rather than focusing on opposing forces, Clear Light is described as a calm, centered presence, "clear like a diamond," offering a space of harmony and renewal. The meditation begins with slow, conscious breathing, inviting listeners to relax the body, soften areas of tension, and trust the natural process of letting go. With each inhale, participants visualize a beam of Clear Light entering through the crown chakra and filling the heart center. As the light expands throughout the body, each exhale releases streams of that same Clear Light into the surrounding space. As the practice unfolds, those streams of light gradually extend farther—from the room, to the home, across the city, around the globe, and finally throughout the universe. In this way, the meditation becomes not only a personal cleansing practice but also an offering of peace, healing, and compassionate intention to all beings. The meditation concludes by gently returning awareness to the physical body, leaving listeners with a renewed sense of serenity, spaciousness, and connection. Luminara reminds us that even a few mindful breaths can help us release what no longer serves us and reconnect with the deeper peace that is always available within. Luminara is a meditation teacher, holistic hypnotherapist, and spiritual guide who helps others explore expanded states of awareness, personal healing, and conscious living. Through her work, she encourages people to connect with their own inner wisdom while cultivating greater peace, balance, and clarity. Standing on the Mountaintop, with Regyna Curtis

In this reflective episode of 5 Minutes of Peace, author and soul rhythm guide Regyna Curtis invites us into a beautiful metaphor for personal growth, self-discovery, and the natural rhythm of life's seasons. Regyna's Website @atmaitri on Instagram Regyna's Facebook page Drawing from her Charting Your Course system, Regyna describes standing on a mountaintop after a long and meaningful journey. It is a place of quiet reflection—a moment to pause before rushing toward the next goal. From this elevated perspective, we are given two extraordinary gifts: hindsight and foresight. Looking back, we recognize the challenges we've overcome, the wisdom we've gained, and the resilience we've developed. Looking ahead, we begin to see more clearly what will truly support us on our next adventure—not just what we hope to accomplish, but who we are becoming along the way. Rather than encouraging constant striving, Regyna reminds us that every season has its purpose. Before beginning something new, we are invited to honor what has already been completed. There is value in celebrating our accomplishments, integrating the lessons we've learned, and allowing ourselves the rest that naturally follows meaningful effort. She also offers an important reminder that the journey isn't finished simply because we've reached the summit. Just as climbing a mountain requires intention, so does the descent. Moving back into everyday life with presence allows the wisdom we've earned to become part of who we are, preparing us to meet the next season with greater authenticity and confidence. This thoughtful reading encourages listeners to slow down, appreciate how far they've come, and trust that rest, reflection, and integration are essential parts of every meaningful path. About Today's GuestRegyna Curtis is a Soul Rhythm Amplifier, founder of At Maitri, and creator of the Charting Your Course system. Breathe Into Your Heart, with Polis Xinaris

In this calming episode of 5 Minutes of Peace, mind-body-spirit wellness coach Polis Xinaris offers a simple meditation designed to help you slow down, reconnect with yourself, and cultivate positive emotions — no matter what challenges your day may bring. Polis begins by inviting listeners to create a quiet, intentional space, perhaps with a favorite object, crystal, or candle as a gentle point of focus. Through a guided breathing practice of slow, steady inhales and extended exhales, he demonstrates how conscious breathing can quiet the mind, relax the body, and bring us fully into the present moment. As the meditation deepens, listeners are encouraged to place both hands over the heart and become aware of its natural rhythm. Polis beautifully illustrates the connection between the heart and the mind, inviting us to imagine a pathway between them. With each breath, our awareness expands, allowing our thoughts, emotions, and inner wisdom to become more fully aligned. From this place of inner connection, he encourages us to embody the qualities we most want to experience—gratitude, love, joy, excitement, and happiness—not as distant goals, but as feelings we can choose to cultivate in the present moment. The meditation concludes by gently returning our attention to the object before us, grounding ourselves in the here and now while carrying these uplifting emotions into the rest of the day. Polis reminds us that peace is not something we have to search for — it can begin with a single breath and a willingness to become present. About Today's GuestPolis Xinaris is a mind-body-spirit wellness coach dedicated to helping people create greater balance, resilience, and inner peace through mindfulness, meditation, and conscious awareness. Healing Forward: Breaking Generational Patterns with Conscious Living, with Queen D. Michele

In this thought-provoking episode, Queen D. Michele invites us to consider how personal healing can become a gift not only to ourselves, but also to future generations. Drawing from her experiences as a retired educator, light worker, and creator of an innovative social-emotional learning curriculum, Queen D. Michele shares three powerful "nuggets" that have shaped her life's work. She begins by reminding us that many of the systems surrounding us often measure success by productivity and output rather than by the quality and purpose of our lives. Her invitation is to reclaim our time, our attention, and our authentic path, recognizing that each of us has the freedom to live with greater intention. Her second reflection explores the growing understanding that trauma can be passed from one generation to the next. Yet alongside that reality comes hope. If emotional wounds can be inherited, she believes healing can move through generations as well. The journey begins with awareness—recognizing inherited patterns, accepting their existence, and opening ourselves to the possibility of transformation. Finally, Queen D. Michele reflects on a profound lesson she discovered while piloting her social-emotional learning curriculum in middle schools. She observed that meaningful emotional growth cannot simply be taught through information alone. Instead, authentic guidance comes from those who have undertaken their own journey of self-awareness and healing. As she beautifully summarizes: "The unconscious can't teach consciousness." Rather than seeing emotional intelligence as a subject to master, she encourages us to view it as a lifelong personal practice—one that strengthens families, communities, and future generations. This episode is a gentle reminder that every step we take toward greater awareness creates new possibilities, not only for ourselves, but for those who follow after us. About Today's GuestQueen D. Michele is a retired K–8 educator with 27 years of teaching experience, as well as an author, blogger, light worker, way shower, and creator. Her work centers on consciousness, emotional intelligence, personal transformation, and helping individuals navigate life with greater awareness and intention. She is the creator of 52 Insights for Gen Alpha: A Conscious Curriculum, an innovative social-emotional learning program designed to cultivate emotional resilience, self-awareness, and conscious living for young people and adults alike.
