Additionally this website provided context on Indigenous and African American history (https://otherworldlyoracle.com/old-florida-folk-magic/). Festival, Zora Neale Hurston on Florida Food: Recipes, Remedies & Simple Pleasures by Frederick Douglass Opie, and assorted books by Zora including by the author including: Mules and Men, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Dust Tracks on a Road, and Barracon. The book I used on saw palmetto is Working the Roots: 400 Over 400 Years of Traditional African-American Healing by Michele E. Lee.
