WHO SAID YOU’RE A PRO? Defining the Standard for Professional DJs

Anybody can buy DJ equipment. Anybody can create a business page. Anybody can book a gig. Anybody can accept money. But does that automatically make you a PROFESSIONAL DJ? 🔥 This Tuesday on 2 DJs 1 Mic, DJ Jay P & DJ Mike are stepping into the ring for a conversation that could get HEATED: In one corner: 🔴 YES — WE NEED STANDARDS Professionalism. Safety. Technical competency. Business practices. Contracts and insurance. Customer service. Ethics. Education. Preparation and backups. The argument: If you're selling a professional service to the public, shouldn't there be certain minimum expectations? And in the other corner: ⚫ NO — KEEP IT OPEN DJing isn't one-size-fits-all. Different DJs serve different markets. Experience doesn't always come from a classroom. Certification doesn't guarantee talent. Creativity shouldn't be controlled. The marketplace already decides who succeeds. And then there's the question that might be more important than either side: 💥 Can we standardize PROFESSIONALISM without standardizing DJs? We're NOT talking about telling DJs what controller to use. We're NOT talking about everybody playing the same music. We're NOT talking about forcing everyone to mix the same way. We're NOT talking about controlling what DJs charge. We're asking: 🎧 What should every professional DJ know? 🔊 Should every DJ understand gain structure and basic audio? ⚡ Should safety knowledge be required? 💻 Should professional DJs have backup systems? 📄 Should contracts be expected? 🛡️ Should liability insurance be part of the standard? 🤝 Should there be a professional code of ethics? 📚 Should continuing education be expected? 🎓 Should there ever be an industry-recognized DJ certification? And the BIG one... DJs? DJ associations? Educators? Venues? Clients? Manufacturers? Or should nobody set it at all? 🥊 THIS ONE IS A DEBATE. We want DJs on BOTH SIDES of this conversation. 📅 Tuesday, October 6, 2026 ⏰ 7:00 PM ET 📺 LIVE — Facebook • YouTube • Kick • Twitch 🎙️ Hosted by DJ Jay P & DJ Mike 👇 DROP YOUR ANSWER BEFORE THE SHOW: Which corner are YOU in—and why? #2DJs1Mic #WhoSaidYoureAPro #DJStandards #ProfessionalDJ #DJIndustry #DJBusiness #DJLife #MobileDJ #WeddingDJ #ClubDJ #DJEducation #DJCommunity #DJProfessional #EntertainmentIndustry 🥊 SHOULD THE DJ INDUSTRY HAVE PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS?❓ WHO GETS TO SET THE STANDARD?🟥 YES — The DJ industry needs professional standards.⬛ NO — Leave it alone and let the market decide.
