Pride Across the Ages is a project imagined by the Mount Alexander Shire LGBTQIA+ Steering Group. After receiving a Melbourne Pride activation grant the group joined forces with mainFM and the Mount Alexander Shire to produce this 10 episode podcast to tell 10 stories of members of the LGBTQIA+ population living in Central Victoria.

    Trace

Trace opens up about living in a binary world as an Intersex woman.  She talks about how often those from the Intersex community believe the "I" in LGBTIQA+ really stands for "invisible," and that is why she has decided to speak up.  With a tragic childhood of abuse and neglect Trace openly discusses how discarded she felt and how important it was to find her place after decades of searching.

Colin's haunting lived experience of childhood bullying and suicidal ideation around his homosexuality makes for an, at times, confronting episode.  Today Colin lives with his husband Stephan who has been by his side for 44 years.  His sharing of the journey from childhood to present day shows how far we have come as a society but still smacks of the same exclusion that we fight against today.

    Pride Across the Ages contains a TRIGGER WARNING and may be distressing to some listeners, if triggered call Switchboard 1800729367.  Lachlan discusses his unique childhood of homeschooling and social isolation.  In a beautifully revealing deep dive Lachlan reveals how confusing it was to navigate childhood with ADHD, suspected dyslexia and undiagnosed Autism in a family whose religious beliefs left no room for Lachlan to be assisted with any of this challenges.  It wasn't until his late teens that he realised his gender dysmorphia was really standing in the way of who he truly was.  Identifying as a Transman, he speaks to the importance of creating support for LGBTIQA+ individuals and how being "out" is important but no always safe.

Sue was born in London in 1950 but grew up in Melbourne.  Sues talks candidly about her upbringing and her discovery of the word Lesbian from a medical book of her fathers on deviation after a teacher asked her and a friend to please associate with the other girls for fear of them becoming lesbians.

This episode is about Lyn who retells some of her impressive life, both personally and professionally and how being a Lesbian had an impact on both of those in different ways.  Lyn was born during the Second World War and was raised in a small regional town initially by her Mother and Grandmother while her Father and Grandfather were both overseas in the war.
