    Robert Pattinson Was Onto Something: Piggy, Humanist Vampire & Inhuman Kiss

    This week on the Uncut Podcast, we return to genres uncut — although calling this one a “genre” might be a stretch… but since when has that ever stopped us? Okay, fine. It is technically a genre. Rob is joined by Emma and Rabia to talk Teen Romance Horror Movies — but not just any old examples. We’re talking about films that make a complete mockery of the famously infamous Twilight saga. (Hated by its own cast is only the beginning of its sins.) To show Stephanie Meyer how it’s really done, Rabia curated three films from around the world that take the teen‑horror‑romance formula and actually do something interesting with it. From Thailand, we have Sitisiri Mongkolsiri’s Krasue: Inhuman Kiss (2019). From Canada, Ariane Louis‑Seize’s inimitable Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (2023). And rounding out our world‑cinema trio, Spain’s Carlota Pereda brings the ferocious Piggy (2022). Next on the podcast is our annual FrightFest Review Special.     Eerie Indiana, the ship that launched a million fandoms - The Joe Dante Episode!

    On the latest episode of Uncut, Rob is Joined by Rabia, Kat and Robyn to talk about the work of Master of Horror Joe Dante. Of the movies we covered, we looked at Dante's take on the nerdy romantic comedy with Burying the Ex, starring the late great Anton Yelchin, and (yes, she can be 40 and look that good) Alexandra Daddario. That one is as much of a love letter to Los Angeles as it is anything else. We head over to Indiana, USA, Eerie, Indiana, to be exact for a TV show that was a pivotal point in the lives of so many millennials turned horror fans. Also, as this rewatch revealed, it's far more mature and intelligent in its thoughts than we ever thought as kids. Then, we end with the greatest horror sequel of all time, Gremlins 2. If I say anything else, I wouldn't really be doing this slice of fried gold anarchy. Andy, Rob and Ryan look at Universal Soldier, specifically the Jean‑Claude Van Damme entries: the 1992 Roland Emmerich original, 1999’s The Return, and John Hyams’s 2009 Regeneration and the threat to all sufferers of epilepsy that is the acclaimed Day of Reckoning from 2012. We spoil these movies in totality, so don’t go in expecting a considered analysis of these deeply goofy and inconsistent movies. We are discussing them with a comedian after all — if we took these movies seriously here, we’d be doing it wrong.
