Powerful. Denigrating. Demeaning. Domineering. Bitch is all of that when it wants to be—and more! Part 1 of Episode 9 charts its origins and the way 'bitch' morphed from being a simpering simmering insult to a fashionable greeting and then settled on being both—and came to imply authority AND weakness as well!—when in the hands and on the tongues of men and women across quite a handful of decades. Here are the timestamps for each section of Part 1: 00:00: Introduction 01:35: Origins 03:35: The Insult 04:16: The Closet of Meanings 06:22: Ernest Hemingway 08:39: The Bitch Manifesto Warning: This episode contains explicit language. Season 1, Episode 8: Girl

It has a naive—almost spiritually innocent—look about it. And yet, the word ‘girl’ can be quite malicious and vicious when in the hands of people who don’t care two hoots about being humane. This episode takes a look at how ‘girl’ was once a leveller and its tendency to find itself in the midst of verbal assault. Warning: This episode contains explicit language. Season 1, Episode 6: Fillers

You can use them to buy time, while away time, and pretend you’re having a conversation even when you don’t want to. Fillers—quite literally—fill in for you in conversations almost all the time. In this episode, we speak to a number of people to find out what particular filler word is their all-time favourite and how they make use of fillers when faced with controversial topics, questions whose answers they know nothing about, and conversations they’d like to keep away from or merely play spectators to. Please note: I conducted several telephonic interviews for this episode. Consequently, the audio for this episode might sound a bit uneven. From measuring depths to assessing friendships and relationships to finding its way into kitchens to getting airtime with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, ‘shallow’ has mingled with some rather quirky bedfellows. This episode tracks people’s opinion about how shallow (or not) is its usage and whether we use it at all these days—and why? Please note: I conducted several telephonic interviews for this episode.
