    On this week's episode we will be exploring the pillar of sleep with Dr. Erin Baehr! Erin Baehr, PhD is a clinical psychologist who is board certified in both sleep medicine and behavioral sleep medicine. She is the founder and clinical director of Insight Sleep Specialists, and provides comprehensive treatment to people who are suffering from insomnia. She also provides sleep coaching to individuals looking to optimize their sleep to improve their health and wellbeing. Erin earned her doctorate from Northwestern University where she gained vast research and clinical experience. She was trained in the "scientist-practitioner" model, which emphasizes the importance of engaging in and understanding research and integrating that research into clinical practice. In other words, translating the research into tangible changes and approaches to improving health!   This sleep-health episode will focus on best practices for optimizing sleep, including when you should sleep and how much sleep you should get, how to exercise to get the best sleep possible, and why it might be necessary to "prepare" for sleep. We will also explore hot topics such as sleep-tracking devices, the effects of weed on sleep, and how sleep loss affects hunger hormones.     On this week episode we will be diving into the Pillar of Fitness with DPT Dalton Cousin! Dalton has a very extensive background in the field of exercise science and kinesiology. He started by obtaining a Bachelors degree in Athletic Training and an Associates degree in Business Administration from Alfred university. This was followed by a Masters in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Southern Georgia University and now Dalton is currently attending The Ohio State University and is in route to becoming a Doctor of Physical therapy. While obtaining his education Dalton has been and continues to train collegiate and professional athletes. His training spans from rehabilitation and preparatory work to creating full season strength and conditioning programs for these athletes.  When it comes to the inner-workings of the brain and the body, Dalton has a very unique approach. He is very passionate about the importance of approaching training and rehabilitation from a systematic whole body stand point opposed to segmenting the body from the brain.     #6 NCPS Kevin Cook explains what a peer specialist is and how they are different from your average clinician, the effects of cultural stigmas on mental health, and the prescription of medication VS the prescription of behavioral changes.

    On this episode we will be covering the social-environmental pillar with NCPS, Kevin Cook! Mr. Cook has an associates degree in natural science and a bachelor's degree in medical technology from the University of Tennessee Memphis, School of Allied Health Sciences. Kevin is also a National Certified Peer Specialist, Pastoral Counselor, Homeless Resource Specialist, and a Health and Wellness coach! During his career he has gained vast experience as a Peer Specialist working in integrated health systems, psychiatric rehab programs, assertive community treatment teams, mobile Crisis teams, and partial hospitalization programs. He also works as a Health and Wellness coach to helps individuals reach their health and fitness goals by alleviating overwhelming stressors from their lives such as grief, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, anger management, and substance abuse.  The important part of what Kevin does as a Peer specialist is that he is a real peer to his clients. Meaning that he has endured similar experiences and overcome those hardships which allows him to relate to his clients in a way that a non-Peer behavioral specialist cannot. This gives him the ability to build immense rapport with his clients and help them create long lasting sustainable lifestyle changes.
