The Productivity Myth: Why the Perfect System Won't Fix Your Life (Ep. 134)

If you've ever found yourself convinced that the answer is a better planner, a stronger routine, a new productivity system, or a more organized approach to life, Friend, this episode is for you. As someone who genuinely loves planners, time management, organization, and a good system, I've spent a lot of years believing that if I could just find the right system, life would finally feel manageable. I would stop forgetting things. Stop dropping balls. Stop making mistakes. Stop feeling behind. The problem? Systems make wonderful tools, but terrible saviors. In this episode, we're unpacking the productivity myth that keeps so many of us chasing the next planner, morning routine, organizational strategy, or time management hack in hopes that it will finally fix what's not working. We'll talk about the ways perfectionism disguises itself as productivity, why so many of us spend more time planning than actually doing, and how our pursuit of optimization can sometimes pull us away from the very life we're trying to build. We'll also explore why our current season matters, why we can't out-systemize our humanness, and how fighting against the reality of our lives often leaves us exhausted, frustrated, and searching for yet another solution. Along the way, I'll share four questions that have helped me discern whether a new system is actually supporting growth—or simply helping me avoid the deeper work. If you've ever color-coded the plan, bought the planner, mapped out the routine, or convinced yourself that this time things will finally click into place, you're in good company. Because sometimes the freedom we're looking for isn't found in a better system. Sometimes it's found in accepting that we're human, paying attention to what's really going on beneath the surface, and learning to build systems that support our lives instead of trying to rescue them. Adult Friendship Is Hard: The Truth About Making and Keeping Friends After 30 (Ep. 133)

Adult friendship can feel confusing, lonely, and sometimes even discouraging. One minute it feels like everyone around us has a tight circle of friends going on girls’ trips and doing life together… and the next minute we look at our own calendars and realize it’s been months since we’ve actually spent time with a friend. So what gives? In this episode, we’re talking honestly about why adult friendships feel so hard and why the comparison game can leave us believing the lie that friendship shouldn’t require effort. The truth is, the way friendships looked in high school or college simply isn’t the same as friendship in adulthood. Our lives are fuller, our responsibilities are heavier, and our time and energy are stretched in ways they never were before. But that doesn’t mean meaningful connection is out of reach. We’ll talk about: Why making and maintaining friendships as an adult takes more intention than we expectHow our expectations from earlier seasons of life can quietly sabotage current friendshipsWhy scheduling time with friends doesn’t make relationships less meaningful—it makes them possibleAnd how choosing the effort of friendship may be the very thing that leads to deeper connectionIf you’ve ever wondered why adult friendships feel difficult, or felt like everyone else seems to have friendship figured out except you, this conversation is for you. Because the truth is: friendship isn’t effortless for anyone. But when we choose to invest the time, energy, and care it requires, it can still become one of the most meaningful parts of our lives. Hyper-Independence in Women: The Hidden Cost of ‘I’m Fine’ (Ep. 132)

“I’m fine.” Two words most women know how to say… even when they’re anything but. In this episode, we unpack the quiet lie hiding behind one of the most common phrases in everyday conversation. While independence is often celebrated as strength—especially for women—there’s a subtle but powerful cost when independence turns into hyper-independence. What if “I’m fine” is sometimes a shield? What if it’s protecting a deeper need for help, support, or understanding? Through a simple game of three truths and a lie, we explore the cultural narrative that tells us we should be able to handle everything on our own—and why that belief often leads to resentment, disconnection, and emotional isolation. In this episode, we talk about: Why the help we need isn’t always physical—it’s often emotional validation and connectionHow saying “I’m fine” when we’re not creates confusion and distance in relationshipsThe resentment cycle that can quietly build in marriages and friendshipsWhy hyper-independence isn’t strength—it’s often self-protectionThe difference between living defensively and choosing wisely in relationshipsHow learning to ask for help can actually deepen connection and strengthen relationshipsYou’ll also hear a few real-life stories—from kitchen conversations to fencing the goat pasture—that illustrate how easily we slip into the “I’ll just do it myself” mindset, and what we miss when we do. Friend, needing other people isn’t weakness. It’s part of living a life that is awake, honest, and deeply connected. If you’ve ever said “I’m fine” while secretly wishing someone would see through it, this conversation is for you. When Everything Feels Like Your Responsibility: The Over-Functioning Trap (Ep.131)

Do you ever feel like everything is your responsibility? The success of the project, the health of your relationships, the mood in the room, the plans with friends, the emotional temperature at home. Many of us call this being responsible. But in the counseling world, there’s another word for it: over-functioning. In this episode, we’re getting honest about the pressure to hold everything together and unpacking the difference between healthy responsibility and over-functioning. We’ll talk about how this pattern develops, how it impacts your nervous system, and why fear and control often keep us stuck in cycles of burnout and emotional exhaustion.  In this episode we explore: • What over-functioning actually is • Why high-capacity people often feel responsible for everyone • The difference between healthy responsibility and unhealthy control • How over-functioning leads to stress, burnout, and nervous system dysregulation • Why fear often sits underneath our need to hold everything together • How to begin releasing responsibility that isn’t actually yours to carry If you’ve ever felt like life rises and falls on your ability to keep it together, this conversation is for you. Because the truth is: the belief that everything depends on you is often fear dressed up as responsibility. And the first step toward freedom isn’t forcing other people to step up — it’s learning to recognize what is actually yours to own.   Links You Need The Strategic Reset Course  LumeBox - Use this link for a $260 discount!  Sign up for our newsletter Follow us on Facebook  Follow us on Instagram    Music in today’s episode: "Autumn Day" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License  "Morning" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/

Small Shortcuts for Real Life | Spring Edition Around here we talk a lot about the long game—building sustainable rhythms, creating systems that support our season of life, and making thoughtful choices that actually last. But today, we’re doing something a little different. Because while quick fixes can’t solve deep-rooted problems, sometimes a small shortcut can make everyday life just a little easier. Distraction Isn’t the Problem: What It’s Really Trying to Tell You (Ep. 129)

Distraction Isn’t the Problem: What It’s Really Trying to Tell You You know that pesky little check engine light that pops on out of nowhere? Some people ignore it, some people haul the car to the dealership immediately—but either way, it’s trying to tell you something. Distraction works the same way. It’s not just about losing focus or scrolling on your phone—it’s a symptom, a signal that something deeper is going on in your life. In this episode, we’re taking a hard look at distraction, the sneaky, subtle, sometimes shame-inducing little thief of our time. From ignoring a kid’s story because of work, to half-hearted apologies, to lost commitments and Netflix spirals—distraction shows up in all sorts of ways. Understanding it, naming it, and exploring what’s really underneath is how we start reclaiming our attention, presence, and peace. We’ll dig into: Why distraction often masks itself as productivity, anger, or “busyness”How distraction leads to shame spirals instead of real solutionsThe small but powerful first step to noticing and untangling the patterns in your lifeIf you’ve been trying to push distraction aside, this episode is for you. Grab a cup of coffee, park yourself somewhere comfy, and let’s lift the hood on distraction together—before that flashing yellow light starts blinking. Half-True Apologies: Why We Say “Sorry” Without Owning the Truth (Ep. 128)

Half-True Apologies: Why We Say “Sorry” Without Owning the Truth How often do we apologize… without actually telling the truth? In this episode, I share a small but eye-opening moment with my husband that made me realize how often we give half-true apologies—the kind that sound sincere but quietly avoid the real issue. What started as a simple “sorry for being distracted” turned into a deeper realization about honesty, personal responsibility, and the stories we tell to soften our mistakes. We’ll explore why we tend to apologize around the truth instead of directly to it—from childhood habits to fear of consequences, burnout, and emotional disconnection. Most importantly, we’ll talk about how telling the truth (even when it’s uncomfortable) opens the door to growth, healthier relationships, and real change. If you’ve ever found yourself saying “sorry” while still sidestepping the deeper truth, this conversation will challenge you to pause, reflect, and choose honesty the next time it matters most. In this episode we discuss: Why we often give half-true apologiesThe connection between distraction, burnout, and honestyHow truthful apologies create growth and stronger relationshipsA simple reflection challenge to help you practice more honest communicationLinks You Need The Strategic Reset Course LumeBox - Use Coupon Code INSPIRINGHEIGHTS at checkout for a $260 discount!

Why You’re Burnt Out in February And How to Fix It (Ep. 127)

Why You’re Burnt Out in February (And How to Fix It) February is kind of a funny month. Winter is still very much here — especially where I live — but there are little hints that spring is coming. A slightly warmer day. A touch more light. And suddenly your mind starts racing ahead… even though your body and energy are still in winter mode. If your New Year’s goals already feel heavier than you expected… If your motivation has gotten quiet… If you feel a little split between where your feet are and what’s coming next… You are not alone. In this episode, we’re unpacking why burnout so often shows up in February — and why it’s not because you’re lazy, undisciplined, or “bad at goals.” We’ll talk about the subtle ways distraction creeps in (even the kind that looks productive), how small daily friction builds into real exhaustion, and why the traditional annual goal-setting model might be working against you. Inside this conversation, we’ll explore: Why February burnout is incredibly commonHow distraction — not laziness — is draining your energyThe small things that “aren’t working” but are quietly wearing you downWhy over 80% of New Year’s resolutions fade by mid-FebruaryA gentler, more sustainable approach through 90-day planningThis episode is an invitation — not to try harder — but to pause. To ask better questions. To get honest about what’s actually draining you. And then to reset in a way that honors your real life, your real capacity, and the season you’re actually in. You don’t have to sweep yourself up into the 80%. You can move forward with clarity. With intention. With presence. Let’s take the next right step together.
