    Salem in the Studio!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! In this episode, we welcome Salem—a guitarist, photographer, and certified horror movie expert—to the Malfunktion Universe! From forming her first band, Stone Wolf, to her current role in the unforgettable, wonderfully chaotic The Wee-Beasties, Salem takes us through her musical journey and how she fell in love with playing. She shares the story behind releasing her solo EP "i wrote this for you" after Stone Wolf ended, what inspired her to shake things up, and the events that lead to her invitation to join The Beasties. But Salem’s artistry doesn’t end with music; she’s also a brilliant photographer. We get into her love for old cameras, how the music scene catapulted her from emo selfies to professional gigs, and why she’s rarely seen without her camera. We also dive into all the movies Mal has been watching this Halloween season. Perfect timing for Salem to stop by the pod for a horror movie chat with Uncle Jesse right before Halloween! Unraveling the Mystery: The Betty and Barney Hill Case with Erin

In this compelling episode, historian and educator Erin is back on the pod to delve deep into the enigmatic Betty and Barney Hill case, one of the most intriguing UFO/UAP incidents in history. Together, we explore various theories surrounding the case, including extraterrestrial involvement, interdimensional beings, and potential government experiments. The conversation also broadens to discuss the overall UFO/UAP phenomenon, its historical context, and its intersections with societal fears and governmental actions during the Cold War era. I've always been intrigued with the UFO/UAP phenomenon and enjoy discussing the subject in detail with people who are not afraid to explore the topic with an open mind. Highlights from the Episode: Erin’s Insights: As a historian, Erin provides a nuanced perspective on the Betty and Barney Hill case, grounding the discussion in historical facts and societal trends. Deep Dive into Theories: The episode navigates through multiple theories, offering listeners a comprehensive understanding of the complexities surrounding UFO/UAP phenomena. Historical Contextualization: By linking the case to broader historical events like the Cold War and civil rights movement, the conversation highlights how external factors shape and influence UFO narratives. Quotes by Erin from Episode: "Anything that a society fears or any monsters that a society has for themselves, whether they're aliens or ghosts or whatever, I think it's a direct reflection on what's going on in that society at the time." "Gaslighting is so common. It's a legitimate psychological term of art, where you convince people that they're crazy, and they don't know what they're talking about." Come along & join the ride! Jakob Hemström of Oh Hiroshima

This week on the podcast, Jesse and I have an amazing conversation with Jakob Hemström from the post-rock band Oh Hiroshima. Jakob gives us the backstory on how he originally got into music as a teenager, Oh Hiroshima’s origins, and how the band has transformed over time. We also talk about each of their albums, the creative process for each one, and how he approaches writing music in general. Other topics we cover: Their two week tour run supporting God is an Astronaut, His DYI approach to the band, his current gear rundown, signing with Napalm Records, and more! We have been jamming this band for several years now, so this one was particularly special for us. Come along and join the ride! Skinny Jeans, Vans, and V Necks with Jesse

This week on the pod, Jesse is back for a wholesome chat about life and music. We reminisce on the early Facebook era before it tore families apart and being a part of the last generation that grew up before the internet. We also unpack some of our past emo wardrobe choices, including the 6+ year stint where all I wore was skinny jeans, vans, and v necks.  We then proceed to get mushy talking about our journey being in a band together, more specifically, the role Jesse played in forming The Roommates.   And to cap off the episode, Jesse shows me a new song that has captured her soul as of late off the album called Rebirth by The Jon Hill Project. I’ve updated the MalFunktion Current Rotation playlist with this entire album on it. This is an album you listen to from start to finish. Another favorite of mine off the album is Drinking and Cleaning.  Come along and join the ride!  Follow Jesse Here: @jesseamaze123  MALFUNKTION CURRENT ROTATION  Follow MalFunktion Here: Instagram TikTok Twitch Email: malfunktionpodcast@gmail.com Other Projects I’m Involved With: The Roommates - Spotify The Roommates - Instagram One Long Take - Podcast
