    'High Fidelity'

RC Fill, film editor extraordinaire, chats with Dan about what should be called the 'classic' film High Fidelity. Lots of music talk, John Cusack, Chicago, and the explosion of Jack Black. Listen and hear about Jack Black exploding! Then have your friends listen, not together though because that only counts as one 'listen'. I need listens to survive. We all do. K, bye.

    New Cult Classics: Cop Land

Michael Patrick Thornton of Chicago's Gift Theatre, Private Practice, and currently on BROADWAY (Macbeth)! We talk about the excellent and underrated Cop Land. A incredible film about systematic corruption with a insane emsemble: Stallone, Keitel, Deniro, Liotta, Sciorra, and many more! We talk acting. We talk Ronald Reagan. We do Robert Deniro impressions. Don't blow it, listen now! It's the final episode of the season, or final episode full stop!

    The Jack Nicholson Pantheon

Ed Flynn is the returning champion as we go through Jack's filmography and pick 8 films for his Pantheon. There are Jack impressions and John Huston shows up! Is Chinatown in the Pantheon? As Good as It Gets? What about Terms of Endearment? Mars Attacks? About Schmidt? You are going to have to listen to find out. And don't forget: "we are the motherf#*king shore patrol!

    New Classics: The Phantom Thread

Ed Flynn is the guest and we talk about Paul Thomas Anderson's Phantom Thread.  This gets nerdy for film and PTA, but also there is a clip of Ed singing Melissa Ethridge. We talk Daniel Day Lewis, the perfect casting of Vicky Krieps and how Lesley Manville can perform a monologue with a shift of her eyes. There's impressions, we raise the question how young is too young to see Die Hard, and I make the case that the Phantom Thread is just as much of a comedy as it is a drama. Listen, share, water your plants.

    The 2000 Re-Oscars

Briggs Hatton is back and we re-do the 2000 Oscars. 1999 was one of the best (and most interesting) years in film: The Matrix, Fight Club, The Insider, Green Mile, Phantom Menace, American Pie, South Park, Green Mile, Election, Being John Malkovich, Topsy Turvy, Galaxy Quest, and also The Cider House Rules. Will American Beauty win Best Picture again? Listen to find out as we go through Adapted Screenplay, Original Screenplay, Supporting Actor and Actress, Actor and Actress, Director, and of course Best Film. We have to agree to award each winner so it gets strategic. We did a better job than the Academy.

    New Cult Classics: Heartburn

Briggs Hatton is my guest and we gush about Mike Nichols, Nora Ephron, Streep, and Nicholson. We also talk about the behind the scenes drama you guys. Like, OMG, so much drama. A Watergate guy. Yeah, that Watergate. AND the lead got re-cast AFTER they started filming. I told you there was drama. This is a rom com before the rom com boom. You. Will. Love. This. Movie.

    The Brad Pitt Pantheon

Ben Montague is back and I partially (Hit the 'u' harder than the 'g') mispronounce his name, he calls out my slang use of the word 'Pantheon' as we debate/argue about Brad Pitt's films and his torso. What are the 8 films that make Brad Pitt's movie Pantheon? Is it River Runs Through It? Legends of the Fall? Troy? Killing Them Softly? Cool World? It's not Cool World. Oh, we also talk about the  Growing Pains sitcom. It's fun. Don't you like fun? Do you know other people that like fun? Share the fun, share the episode, subscribe, rate, stop me in the grocery store and tell me what a fan you are. I gotta go now.

New Cult Classics: Killing Them Softly

Ben Montague is the guest and we talk about Andrew Dominek's Killing Them Softly starring Brad Pitt. We be talkin' about a sad E.T. story and a tough American boy who doesn't cry in public, James Gandolfini, and the in your face subtlety of the Killing Them Softly. Is this a 'B' Brad Pitt movie? Does the in your face VO work? How much can the craft carry a movie if you don't like the subject matter? Do you know the reference I make at the end of the pod? If so we are friends cuz we dig the minutiae (had to look up spelling). SUBSCRIBE, SHARE, GO WATCH FILMS!

    The Jim Carrey Pantheon

Howie Kremer is back with Dan as they pick the 8 movies that shall make up Jim Carrey's movie Pantheon. Apologies to the fans of 1983's Copper Mountain.

  11. 03/06/2022

    New Classics: The Cable Guy

Caaaaable Guuuuuy! Howie Kremer is the guest as he and Dan jibber jabber about all things The Cable Guy. What makes it a classic, behind the scenes, hot takes, impressions, and a few questions are answered by Cable Guy producer (and writer!) Judd Apatow. Also, Dan gets a little weird about Jim Carrey.
