    All the Queen's Horses - Rita Crundwell and the Con of Dixon, IL

    Since our favorite cons are emerging years later, we thought we would share some new con stories this season. Now it's Vanessa's turn! A con is memorable when it hits too close to home. This is the story of Rita Crundwell. She is responsible for the single largest financial con of public funds in the history of the United States perpetrated by a single individual. A former co-worker of Vanessa's was charged and found guilty of embezzlement on a much smaller scale but used similar tactics to steal. The level of betrayal in this con is higher than most. She conned the very town she was born and raised in. She lied to her community while acting like an upstanding citizen. The town of Dixon, IL was never same. It is a reminder that cons can hide in plain sight, even next door. Prepare yourself for this one! It is one incredible tale of deceit.
