    Oweynagat – The Cave of the Cats

    On a quiet road in County Roscommon, Ireland, a low hump of stone hides a crawl-space entrance into the dark. Locals call it the Cave of the Cats, and according to ancient tradition, it is where Samhain, and maybe Halloween itself, was born. This Halloween week on Destination Terror, we visit Oweynagat, the so-called Gate to Hell at Rathcroghan, the legendary seat of Queen Medb. In tonight's original story, a woman inherits a farm beside the cave and is given four rules for the last night of October. Shut the gate. Leave a bowl of water on the sill. Stay out of the back field. And whatever you do, do not count the flock. Then we step out of the story to explore the real history behind the legends: the Morrígan's chariot, the pigs that multiplied when counted, birds with poisoned breath, and the tale of Nera, who followed an army into the Otherworld on Samhain night.     Haunted Brushy Mountain Prison - The End of the Line

    Deep in the East Tennessee mountains, Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary was built from the Coal Creek War and the end of convict leasing. For 113 years, men were sent to the end of the line to dig coal inside a mountain that kept most of its secrets. Today the prison is a historic site, and visitors and paranormal investigators report shadow figures, whispering voices, and freezing cold spots in the halls. In this episode of Destination Terror, a father searching for his missing four-year-old daughter follows her tiny footprints to the prison gate and finds it open. We also dig into the real history of Brushy Mountain, from the mines and the overcrowded cell blocks to James Earl Ray's famous 1977 escape and the hauntings people still talk about. The story is original fiction inspired by the location. The history and reported hauntings are real.     Flatwoods West Virginia - The Flatwoods Monster

    On September 12, 1952, a glowing object dropped from the sky over Flatwoods, West Virginia. A group of boys, a mother, a young National Guardsman and a dog climbed the hill to look. They ran back down describing a ten-foot figure with a blood-red face, a pointed hood and glowing eyes, gliding toward them out of a foul mist. Was it a visitor from another world, or a startled barn owl having a very bad night? In this episode of Destination Terror, we visit the Braxton County hills to dig into the witnesses, the investigators and the skeptics behind the Flatwoods Monster. Our story tonight is a work of fiction inspired by the legend. It deals with a marriage falling apart, a man with a drinking problem, and a very bad night to be out in the woods.     High in the hills east of the Sierra Nevada sits Bodie, California. It was once one of the most lawless gold rush boomtowns in the West, and today it's the most famous ghost town in America.     Fouke, Arkansas — The Beast That Walks Out of Boggy Creek

    Something seven feet tall has been walking out of the Arkansas swamp for over a hundred years. It leaves footprints with only three toes. It's been shot at more times than anyone can count — and it always comes back. This is the Fouke Monster.   Deep in the Sulphur River bottoms of southwest Arkansas, the little town of Fouke shares its backyard with the Beast of Boggy Creek — the three-toed, red-eyed swamp Bigfoot that terrorized the Ford family in 1971, inspired the cult classic film The Legend of Boggy Creek, and still gets called in to the county sheriff to this day.
