Caring Without Losing Yourself: Incontinence, Caregiving and Dignity

Caring for someone with bladder or bowel incontinence can be a deeply personal responsibility — and one that brings challenges many caregivers never anticipated. In this episode of Life Without Leaks, we're joined by board-certified physician assistant and Aeroflow Urology medical advisor Aleece Fosnight to talk about the realities of caring for someone living with incontinence. She explores the emotional and financial toll caregiving can take, the difficulty of balancing care with work and family responsibilities, and the importance of preserving dignity and independence along the way. Aleece also shares practical guidance for managing incontinence at home, from finding the right products and protecting skin health to timed voiding, hydration and seeking support before burnout sets in. Most importantly, she reminds caregivers that asking for help is not a failure and that caring for someone else shouldn't mean losing yourself in the process. Whether you're caring for an aging parent, a spouse, someone with a disability or another loved one, this conversation offers practical advice, reassurance and resources to help make the caregiving journey a little easier. Showing incontinence who's the boss in the workplace

Managing urinary incontinence is challenging enough, but bladder leaks, sudden urgency and frequent trips to the restroom can be especially stressful when you’re trying to get through a busy workday. In this episode, we share practical strategies for managing bladder symptoms on the job, whether you’re commuting to an office, sitting through a long meeting, working from home or navigating a packed schedule. We’ll talk about bladder training and bathroom planning, hydration and potential bladder triggers, keeping a bladder diary, preparing for unexpected leaks, choosing incontinence products, staying active and more. We’ll also discuss when it may be worth talking with your employer about workplace accommodations, and why managing your symptoms shouldn’t take the place of talking with a healthcare provider about what’s causing them. Urinary incontinence is common, and it’s treatable. With the right strategies and support, you can spend less of your workday worrying about your bladder and more of it focused on everything else. Helpful Resource: Keep track of your symptoms, bathroom habits and fluid intake with NAFC’s free downloadable bladder diaries: nafc.org/diaries. Embarrassment. Frustration. Unanswered questions. For many people living with bladder or bowel conditions, these feelings can become just as challenging as the symptoms themselves. In this episode of Life Without Leaks, we're joined by board-certified urogynecologist Dr. Jannah Thompson and patient advocate Morgon for an honest and inspiring conversation about navigating the healthcare journey. Morgon shares his deeply personal story, from developing debilitating bladder symptoms as a young U.S. Marine to years of searching for answers, learning to advocate for himself, and ultimately finding treatments that transformed his life. Together, they discuss why so many people delay seeking care, how to communicate more effectively with your healthcare provider, the importance of asking questions, and why finding the right physician can make all the difference. They also explore today's treatment options and explain why no one should feel they have to suffer in silence. Whether you're living with bladder or bowel symptoms yourself, caring for someone who is, or simply looking to make the most of your next doctor's appointment, this episode offers practical advice, encouragement, and a powerful reminder that your voice matters. In this episode, you'll learn:  Why honest communication is the foundation of effective treatment.  How to prepare for a more productive doctor's appointment.  When it's time to seek a second opinion or specialist.  What neuromodulation is and how it can help some patients.  Why self-advocacy is one of the most important tools in your healthcare journey. Because the first step toward getting better is making yourself heard.
