How Jude Wharton Built a Business That Works for Life and Family

In this episode of It’s Your Business, Kath is joined by Jude Wharton, one half of husband-and-wife team Ready Steady Websites, for an honest and insightful conversation about building a business around family life and making it work for the long haul. Jude shares how she and her husband Chris took the leap into business 16 years ago while expecting their first child, after realising that long hours, commuting and nursery life were not the future they wanted for their family.  What followed was a bold decision to step away from secure jobs and grow a business together, even with a six-month-old baby and no guarantees. Jude talks openly about those early days, the challenges of working as a couple, the importance of defining roles, and how moving from home into an office helped them separate work and family life and properly find their rhythm.  The episode also explores how Ready Steady Websites has evolved over the years, from bespoke design work to WordPress themes, courses, template websites, done-for-you services and now more advanced lead and marketing systems through their software, Connector. Jude explains why staying flexible has been essential, how they have responded to changing client needs, and why listening to what small businesses actually want has shaped every step of their growth.  Kath and Jude also discuss the rise of AI, the risk of businesses becoming too bland and automated, and why the human side of business still matters. Jude shares her thoughts on using technology well without losing creativity, personality or trust, and why businesses that think carefully about how they connect with people will continue to stand out.  This is a great episode for anyone running a business with a partner, juggling family and work, building an online presence, or trying to grow in a changing digital world without losing what makes their business unique. How Food Changed My Life - Jackie Wilkinson on Nutrition and Health

In this episode of It’s Your Business, Kath is joined by Jackie Wilkinson of Jackie Wilkinson Nutrition Coaching for a fascinating conversation about health, food and the life-changing impact of getting nutrition right.  Jackie shares how she spent 23 years working in science before finding her true path in nutrition coaching, a journey shaped by her own experiences with elite sport, illness and recovery. Jackie opens up about discovering archery after struggling with sport at school, going on to represent Great Britain, and later becoming British champion six times.  But alongside that success came serious health challenges. After following the nutritional advice she was given as an athlete, Jackie found herself constantly hungry, tired, overweight and unwell, eventually developing ME and reaching a point where even everyday tasks became difficult. Everything changed when she began to look at food differently.  In this episode, Jackie explains how changing her diet transformed her energy, mood and overall health, and why she is now so passionate about helping others do the same.  She talks about why one size does not fit all when it comes to nutrition, the importance of eating real food, and how modern processed diets are affecting people’s health on a huge scale. Kath and Jackie also explore the realities of modern eating habits, from eating too fast and ignoring the body’s signals to the rise of processed foods, seed oils and sugar-heavy diets.  Jackie shares practical, down-to-earth advice on tuning into your body, improving digestion, thinking differently about breakfast and making small, realistic changes that can have a big effect over time. This is an insightful and empowering episode for anyone who wants to feel better, have more energy, understand their body more clearly, and rethink the way they eat in a busy modern world.  Jackie’s message is simple but powerful: eat real food, enjoy it, and start paying attention to how it makes you feel. From Care to Campaigner - Gemma Anyon’s Fight to Change Young Lives

In this deeply moving episode of It’s Your Business, Kath sits down with Gemma Anyon for a conversation that is as powerful as it is inspiring. Gemma shares the raw truth of her early life, from growing up in an abusive household and entering the care system at the age of 10, to leaving care at 16 without the support she needed, and spiralling into drink, drugs, debt and deep trauma in her teenage years. But this is not a story about giving up. It is a story about survival, healing and extraordinary purpose. Gemma opens up about the journey that changed everything, the deep personal work she did to rebuild her life, and how that transformation led her to create Inspired Empowerment CIC and Next Gen MeM, supporting young people through mentoring, mental health empowerment and early intervention. Now, Gemma is on a mission to make one-to-one mentoring a statutory right for children in care and care leavers, so that no young person is left to face adulthood alone. Her work is already changing lives, with schools, mentors and organisations across the UK seeing the impact of giving young people the tools, support and belief they need to thrive. This episode is honest, emotional and unforgettable. It is about trauma, resilience, self-belief, second chances and what can happen when someone decides to turn their pain into purpose. Gemma’s story will move you, but more than that, it will make you think about what needs to change and why her campaign matters so much... From Solo Founder to CEO - Oliver Alcock on Building, Selling and Buying A Business

In this Ribble Valley Business Awards Special, I’m joined by Oliver Alcock, CEO and owner of The Printed Cup Company, for a brilliant, honest conversation about business growth, reinvention, and keeping your local roots no matter how far your work travels. Oliver takes us back to the beginning, when he launched Oliver Alcock Computers in Clitheroe as a one-man band, simply aiming to replace his salary and take control of his own future. He shares why he rebranded to Bowland IT, how that change helped the business scale, and why he believes failure is part of the process, because it is how you find your niche and move forward stronger. We hear how Bowland IT grew far beyond what most people would imagine, supporting multi-site organisations and even high-profile, high-security environments, while still keeping a friendly, “local IT company” feel that clients valued. Oliver also shares the emotional decision to sell Bowland IT after receiving an offer he could not refuse, and how quickly the next chapter arrived. That next chapter is The Printed Cup Company, where Oliver did not just buy a business, he bought a culture. He talks about the joy of working with customers who are excited about their brands, from independent coffee vans to larger chains, and how he is bringing his tech background into manufacturing by improving systems and exploring automation.  Finally, Oliver explains why The Printed Cup Company is proud to be the headline sponsor of the Ribble Valley Business Awards, championing the local business community that shaped his own journey. https://www.printedcupcompany.com Want to start YOUR own Podcast?  Your Fairy Podmother®️www.fairypodmother.co.uk
