Transforming Angry Hearts | The Jesus Way | June 7th, 2026

This week, we continue looking at the greatest sermon ever preached as we look at the topic of… anger. Jesus knows us so well and knows what is in our hearts. The most dominant and common emotion people experience is probably anger. What Jesus says in this portion of His sermon is tough. Hands down, this week and next week contain some of the most challenging passages for us to apply to our lives. Think about the fact that when Jesus preached this sermon, His ministry had just begun. He had a massive crowd around Him, and He immediately addressed some heavy-hitting topics. He will expose the religious leaders and everyone in attendance (including ourselves) to the reality that no one gets to say, “Well, I’m good.” We are entering a section of the passage that addresses acceptable worship, reconciliation, what relational tension reveals, and what to do about anger when it becomes a continual pattern in our lives. We will do our best to distinguish between godly anger and sinful anger. Jesus was definitely angry at times, and there are things that should make us angry as well. But what kind of anger pleases God, and what kind of anger makes Him angry at us? This passage reveals that we cannot walk closely with Jesus while harboring anger deep in our hearts. We want to be a people who are slow to anger, just as the Lord has been with us.  WEBSITE: https://five39.church/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/five39church/ INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/five39church/ PODCAST: https://anchor.fm/five39-church/

Clarifying Reasons | The Jesus Way | May 31st, 2026

What an amazing season we’re in as a church. Seeing so many people give their lives to Jesus as we study His words has brought so much joy to my heart! This week we continue our study and look at just four verses where Jesus tells us why He didn’t come, and why He did. Our reasons for following Jesus might not actually be what we need. Jesus brings clarity about the Law and about Himself. This message is titled “Clarifying Reasons,” and we’re going to let Jesus tell us what those are. We all put so much stock in our own world, plans, and will for our lives, but we’ll see that Jesus will accomplish His Word and His will, not our own, and that is very good news! He is a promise-keeping God, and we can stand on His Word. Jesus also gives a specific challenge because He knows how easily we lose focus. He calls us to live for true greatness in His kingdom. I’ll spend time showing how easily we live for our own kingdom, some warning signs that reveal it, and how we can make sure we’re pursuing true greatness in God’s kingdom instead. The entire Word of God is so important for our lives. We need to cherish it, obey it, find Jesus in it, and walk closely with Him. Jesus didn’t come to steal joy, but to show us that true joy is only found in Him. Every command of God is an invitation. As a church, we don’t shrug at His Word, we surrender to it. How To Be Happy | The Jesus Way | May 17th, 2026

This Sunday we begin our summer-long series through the greatest sermon ever preached: the words of Jesus in Matthew 5, 6, and 7. It is rich, challenging, and calls us to deeper obedience as His followers. At this early point in His ministry, Jesus’ fame is spreading, but He doesn’t collect fans — He calls followers to live in allegiance to His authority. I’ll be honest with you: there are some hard sayings that He lays down. He looks at a crowd of people who LOVE His miracles, healings, and what He can offer them, but the question is: do they really love Jesus and His way? It’s a timely challenge for our church family. There is a way we like to live, and there is a way we must live if we’re going to follow Jesus. He looks at the crowd, invites them in, and shows them what it truly means to be His disciple. Jesus has an agenda in this portion of His teaching: to make sure people truly understand what it means to follow Him for His sake, not just because of what He can give them. This week, we’ll cover Matthew 5:1–12 with a message titled, “How to Be Happy.” Everyone, without exception, wants to be happy. But what does it mean to be truly happy in God despite our circumstances? The hard truth is that many of us who follow Jesus seek deep happiness, joy, and satisfaction apart from Jesus and His way. We don’t hunger and thirst for Him like we ought to. If we’re honest, we hunger for affirmation, healing, money, and comfort in this life. We look within ourselves and to the world to find fulfillment. Our hearts are drawn to other things for “happiness,” and in this passage, Jesus comes in hot and lays down some hard truth. If you want to find true happiness, it starts with brokenness. Jesus is NOT looking for more people to sit in rows, fill a room, and watch Him work. He’s looking for followers who will live under His teaching and His way. Purpose in Pain | Meant For Good | May 10th, 2026

Some of the deepest wounds we carry are not only about what happened to us, but who hurt us.We live in a broken world, but we also live in broken relationships. Betrayal, disappointment, conflict, and pain can leave marks on our hearts that are hard to move past. And when the pain runs deep, many of us find ourselves asking: Where was God in this? This Sunday, we will conclude our series on the life of Joseph. After years of betrayal, loss, false accusation, and suffering, Joseph finally stands face to face with the very brothers who caused so much of his pain. In that moment, he has a choice: will he allow bitterness to take root, or will he trust that God has been working even here?Joseph’s story reminds us that pain can become a lens. If we are not careful, it can distort the way we see God, others, and ourselves. It can keep us fixed on the offense and unable to move forward. But Genesis 45 invites us to see something different:Where the world wants us to stay paralyzed in pain, God invites us to view our pain through His purpose.Joseph was able to say, “God sent me.” Later, he would say, “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.” That does not mean the pain was not real. It does not mean the wounds did not matter. It means the pain was not pointless. Protected by His Presence | Meant For Good | April 19, 2026

This week, we continue our series on the life of Joseph, looking at Chapter 39 with a message titled, “Protected by His Presence.” Often, we walk through the highs and lows of life and wonder, “Is God really with me?” If He is, why am I experiencing so much turmoil, temptation, and trial? God was with Joseph in a unique way, and it wasn’t shown in the absence of problems, but in the pit and the prison he experienced. He was innocent, and yet his life was full of trouble. You would think God would let up on him. He seems to be doing the right thing over and over, and yet we see him attacked again and again. We will see clearly that living in integrity doesn’t mean you won’t be lied about, and that God’s protection and presence are on those who fear Him and are faithful. Joseph has a high view of sin and is obedient in every way. We have the opportunity to see the beginning, middle, and end of his story, and really the “what” and “why” behind what God is allowing. We don’t get that same opportunity in our own stories. God is often calling us deeper for reasons we cannot yet see. Instead of asking “why” or “what,” we may need to look up and simply ask for strength to be faithful—to fear the Lord and do the next right thing. Our goal this Sunday is to encourage those who are experiencing the pit or the prison: God’s protection and presence are found there, not just once you experience relief.
