    Ep 84. “Adversity Is a Privilege”: The Alexander Volkanovski Mindset

    Yo, what’s popping my peeps and welcome to today’s episode today. We are diving into a very sensitive topic. We’re diving into a very personal topic. We are talking about the famous quote by UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. The quote is simple and straight to the .4 words “Adversity is a Privilege” Let me ask y’all something What if the thing you’re trying hardest to avoid… is actually the thing you need most? What if failure isn’t proof that you’re not good enough? What if losing isn’t the opposite of winning? What if getting knocked down… being doubted… getting older… losing confidence… having people tell you that your best days are behind you… isn’t the end of your story? What if it’s the beginning of the most important chapter? Because there’s a phrase that Alexander Volkanovski used after one of the biggest victories of his career. A phrase that sounds simple. Almost too simple. He said: “Adversity is a privilege.” Think about that. Not— “Adversity is unfortunate.” Not— “Adversity is something I wish I didn’t have to go through.” Not— “I can’t believe how difficult this was.” He called it a privilege. And today, we’re going to unpack exactly what that means. Because Alexander Volkanovski didn’t say those words from the comfort of a couch. He said them after going through one of the most difficult stretches of his professional career. He had lost the UFC featherweight championship. He had suffered back-to-back knockout losses. People questioned whether he was finished. People questioned his age. People questioned whether he could ever become champion again. And then he walked into UFC 314 against Diego Lopes. A younger, dangerous opponent. A fighter with momentum. A fighter who had absolutely no interest in allowing Volkanovski to have a Hollywood ending. And Volkanovski won. He became UFC featherweight champion again. And afterward, instead of pretending the road had been easy… he embraced the road. He embraced the struggle. He embraced the doubt. He embraced the moments that could have broken him. And that’s what makes this quote so powerful. Because “adversity is a privilege” isn’t really about fighting. It’s about how you interpret suffering. It’s about what you do when life doesn’t cooperate with your plans. It’s about what happens when the person you thought you were… gets challenged. Today we’re going to talk about Alexander Volkanovski. But really… we’re talking about you. Because every person listening to this has something they’re fighting. Maybe it’s a career. Maybe it’s a relationship. Maybe it’s your health. Maybe it’s your confidence. Maybe you’re trying to rebuild yourself after a failure. Maybe you’re in a season where nobody sees what you’re going through. And maybe… just maybe… your adversity isn’t proof that you’re losing. Maybe it’s an opportunity.     Hello everyone and welcome to today’s episode of the pod today we decided to honor the life and legacy of President Jeffrey R Holland. President of the quorum of the 12 apostles for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Jeffery R Holland passed away at age 85 on December 27, 2025. Holland’s Legacy is a legacy that will never be forgotten. From the very first time you hear him speak, you recognize something different. There is passion there. Conviction. But also vulnerability. He never pretended that faith was easy. He never suggested discipleship came without pain. Instead, he acknowledged the struggle—and then testified anyway. That mattered. Elder Holland taught that broken hearts are not disqualifiers for God’s love. He reminded us that tears do not mean failure. That doubt, sorrow, and weariness are often part of the very path that leads us closer to Christ. And if there is one invitation his life leaves with us, it might be this: Hold on. Keep believing. And never, ever give up on Jesus Christ.
