Living with a Chronic Illness (Part 8): Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Welcome to Hot Topics! In this episode, host Gabrielle Crichlow sits down with Harris Eddie Hill (they/them) to discuss their experience living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Harris explains what the condition is, explores some of its most difficult symptoms, and shares how it has affected their physical, emotional, and everyday life. Harris describes experiencing severe episodes that have left them struggling to move for up to two weeks. They also discuss being unable to tolerate sound or light, which can contribute to an intense mental crash. The conversation examines how trauma can trigger or worsen their symptoms, why receiving a proper diagnosis from a doctor is important, and how working with a trauma therapist has helped Harris process their experiences, manage life with a chronic illness, and recover from it. Who is Harris Eddie Hill? Harris Eddie Hill (they/them) is a nonbinary podcaster, connection expert, best-selling author, and founder of The Secure Connection Method - a trauma-informed framework that helps people create secure, strong relationships in love, leadership, and life. Harris specializes in helping people who’ve done the self-awareness work but still find themselves stuck in patterns of emotional disconnection - whether that’s in their romantic lives, their workplace, or their own self-relationship. Their work in organizational settings focuses on emotionally intelligent leadership, workplace connection, and team cohesion rooted in psychological safety. A former NHS coach and a sought-after speaker (shortlisted for Positive Impact & Sustainability Speaker of the Year at the Speaker Awards), Harris is passionate about making healing accessible, practical, and deeply human. Their work empowers people to move beyond coping strategies and into lasting transformation - without needing to intellectualize their pain or relive their trauma. Harris’s own journey includes surviving unaccepting family, cancer, abuse, mental health struggles, and even temporary paralysis. Through it all, they’ve built a life of emotional freedom, deep connection, and joyful self-trust - and now help others do the same. After healing from over three decades of chronic pain and prescription medication addiction, Elizabeth now helps people release unhealthy inherited survival patterns through nervous-system healing, ancestral clearing, somatic awareness, and trauma-informed recovery practices. Her work bridges trauma physiology, intergenerational healing, addiction recovery, and embodied spirituality to support people in moving beyond suffering and reclaiming lasting freedom, regulation, and self-trust.
