A Propos: France and New York in conversation

As a Black American it was so interesting to hear that France looked and looks to the US for race response and discussions, and that both countries shared the myth of being post-racial. At a later date, I'd love to hear more in this series about the racial reckoning that's happened over the last couple of years and how that's effected the discussion in France. China's assertion, "just do it yourself" has never rung more true for creatives, and no matter how many times we hear it, we can always stand to hear it again and take it to heart.

What an inspiration! China’s story offers so many important and thoughtful personal reflections on French-American cultures, Black experience in each, and being a shapeshifter across identities and art forms. Garance’s questions were very insightful and opened up the conversation beautifully. As an American Francophile, I can’t wait to listen to the next tête-à-tête!

China Moses is the kind of person I could always listen to. I wish this conversation had been longer (that’s why not 5 stars), but she gives good perspective on finding your tribe and choosing your battles. Nice to hear the ways an American perspective and a French one differ and are the same.
