Garfield is everywhere, like a bland and inoffensive god. But, consider a silver lining: he's become an icon for millennial ennui, a metaphor for the mundanity of life during the apocalypse. For the next six weeks, tune in every Monday for a new episode of GarPod, where we discuss weird fan theories, the legalities that allow Garfield fan art to thrive, and interesting socialist interpretations of Garfield’s whole deal. Featuring some of Austin's best comedians, as well as some other people, this podcast is sure to delight at least 1 in 4 of your friends and family.

    GarPod Presents: Kathy

This week on GarPod, I’m shamelessly promoting my award-winning original pilot, Kathy. After evidence of her famous father's forgery is stolen, Diana Davis, a professional Kathy Bates impersonator, infiltrates a group home for unsuccessful celebrity impersonators to root out the thief and save her father's reputation. Featuring Andee Niles, Kyle Romero, G-Su Paek, Myk Stocks, Yola Lu, Garrett Buss, Cassidy Beckham, Ashley Beasley, and Becky Peter. Sound by Levi Methvin.

    Legal Matters

We can’t talk about Garfield parodies without talking about copyright law. What does the law say, and why has it allowed Garfield fan art to flourish? We explore the elements of copyright, fair use, and parody, and discuss whether courts are equipped to handle decisions about art. And in case any The Good Wife fans are tuning in, I talk about The Good Wife a little in this episode. Featuring Macy Cotton, Ryan Teel, Levi Methvin, and Tate Chitwood.

    Socialist Garfield?

Per The Atlantic, late-stage capitalism "is a catchall phrase for the indignities and absurdities of our contemporary economy, with its yawning inequality and super-powered corporations and shrinking middle class.” The same article also argued that "the globalized, post-industrial economy had given rise to postmodernist culture and art. Everything, everywhere, became commodified and consumable. High and low culture collapsed, with art becoming more self-referential and superficial." If this doesn't describe modern Garfield memes (and memes in general), then I'm working really hard on writing this copy and not just inserting quotes to make my life easier. Join us this week as we discuss how Garfield has become a canvas for anticapitalist frustrations and general existential ennui. Featuring Kyle Romero, G-Su Paek, Garrett Buss, and Tate Chitwood (in spirit; his microphone wasn't working).

    Capitalist Garfield

It's no secret that Jim Davis sees Garfield as a profit-driven venture. Garfield was created as a commodity, with his marketability valued above his artistic merit. This raises a question: is Garfield supposed to be funny? And regardless, should art be a business? Join us as we discuss these questions and more, including a semi-off-topic conversation about The Matrix that I considered editing down but didn't. Featuring Kyle Romero, G-Su Paek, Garrett Buss, and Tate Chitwood.

    Lyman (Or, the Disappearing Roommate)

Did you know Jon once had a roommate? His name was Lyman, and he disappeared from the comic strip in the early 80s, never to be seen again. What happened to him? Well, there's a surprising amount of textual evidence to support the theory that Jon killed Lyman(!). This week, we weigh this evidence and discuss whether Jon is actually a cold-blooded killer. Featuring Drew Wesely, Ashley Beasley, and Tate Chitwood.

    Jon

Who is Jon Arbuckle? Lonely nerd, Jim Davis analog, symbol of Boomer angst, or all of the above? In our series premiere, we're joined by Drew Wesely, Ashley Beasley, and Tate Chitwood to discuss all things Jon.

A little introduction to GarPod through a well-produced promo that shows I definitely know what I am doing and that I have done this before (do not fact check)
