    43. The Courage to Heal: Shadow Work, Sobriety & Spiritual Growth, A Real AF Conversation with my friend Katie Wessles Who is a High End Energy Healer and Integrative Trauma Coach

On this episode of the Heart AF Podcast, I sit down with high-end energy healer and trauma-integrative coach Katie Wessels to talk about what it really looks like to heal from the inside out. Katie shares her raw sobriety journey—from using alcohol and drugs to dissociate and survive, to the moment she chose to finally give herself a real chance at life. She opens up about the accidental drink at a Nuggets game that went viral on Facebook, how her body instantly remembered alcohol, and the surprising wave of community, support, and conversation that followed. Together, we dive into how trauma gets stored in the body, why our nervous systems hold onto survival mode, and how modalities like yoga, energy work, and shadow work help us feel safe enough to come back home to ourselves. Katie also shares the heart behind her 12-week program, Integrated As F*ck, created for women who are ready to unf*ck old patterns, reconnect with their inner child, and finally live from a regulated, empowered, feminine place. If you’ve ever felt stuck in old identities, burnt out, or scared to take off the mask and truly be seen, this conversation will remind you that you’re not alone, and that healing is absolutely possible! 🫶 Links & Resources: Find me on Instagram: @chelsea.vanbuskirk Email: info@chelseavanbuskirk.com Find out more about Katie Wessels and her programs here: https://www.katie-wessels.com/ Find Katie on Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/katie.wessels.2025

    42. Grieving and Receiving Signs During the Holidays

The Holidays are supposed to be a time of joy, parties, and seeing loved ones, but for some of us, this time of year feels heavy with heartache over our loved ones who are no longer with us during this season. This week, I’m sharing an older episode touching on my personal journey through loss, and grieving through the holiday season. I share with you how we can still feel sad and honor our loved ones while still allowing ourselves to laugh, love, and live in the present moment. Our loved ones in spirit are never too far away from us, and will often send us signs. I share how my dad sends me signs from the other side all the time.  Such a powerful reminder that love never leaves us. 🌟 That if you are open and aware you may start to notice the signs your loved ones could be sending you.. In a song you hear, something that catches your eye, a wild animal, numbers, actual signs, or like for me- license plates! Signs are all around, we can even ask for something specific for validation!  I hope this episode warms your heart and provides you some comfort and tools for making it through this holiday season, especially if grief is still fresh and raw in your heart. I am sending so much love to all of you listening 💖✨ Don't forget to let me know what sign you receive from your loved one!  Send me a DM on Facebook or Instagram @chelsea.vanbuskirk or an email at info@chelseavanbuskirk.com Here is a video I made with some more quick tips to help you if you are grieving this holiday season 🫶: YouTube #grief #griefshare #youaresupported #youarenotalone #youareheld #youvegotthis #wegotyou #onelove #heartaf #innerstrength #weareallone #beyou #youareworthy #youareenough #spiritualgrowth #selfgrowth #spirituality #selfawareness #letitbe #justbe #bestillandknow #pain #griefcloud #feelitall #spiritualhealing #healinggrief #signsfromspirit #signs #mediumship #connection #spirit #divinetiming #journeyofsouls #signsfromabove #signsfromlovedones #riseup #shinebright #shineon #beyou #speakyourtruth #liveyourtruth #doyou #loveoverfear

    41. 3 Tangible Actions for Releasing Suppressed Emotions as a Mother

Have you ever been pushed too far that you finally breakdown and scream and cry while driving in your car? Well that was me the other day.  On this Heart AF episode, I walk you through the moment I was finally able too let go and faced the truths of the pains I had been holding in side, those feelings I hadn't really wanted to look at or acknowledge. They finally bubbled up to the surface and came out in the most animalistic ugly crying and screaming way possible while I was sitting in my car in a public parking lot.  Like Lizzo said, 'Truth Hurts'! BUT..  When I finally looked at the things I didn't want to see, I was able to let it all go. This was a turning point in releasing all the suppressed emotions and  resentment that had been building up within me, showing the only way out of it is through. We dig into: • Suppressed emotions—and how unspoken pain turns into irritation, victimhood, and burnout • The “mirror effect” in relationships (yep, your partner will reflect your stuff) • How to notice triggers before you explode: body cues, short fuse, numb-out habits • Practical tools for release: name it out loud, journal it, move it (somatic shaking/dance), music, crying • Boundaries, responsibility, and self-healing: why no one else can fix what’s hurting inside you • Getting back to alignment—so you can attract joy, abundance, and connection Quick practices to try today: Name the truth: Say it out loud or write it down. Move the energy: 3 minutes of shaking/dancing or a primal scream in a safe space. Micro-boundary: one small, clear ask the next time a line is crossed. The UGLY CRY- This is what healing looks like, It's messy, human, and honest. When we do our inner work, everything around us follows suit! Please share this episode with anyone who could benefit! 🫶 If this resonated, tell me what landed, or share your own release story. 39. How Your Nervous System Impacts Your Kids (My Story of Mom Dysregulation & Burnout)

This experience showed me the effects of how important co-regulation is with your kids. Especially if you have kids who may have some sensory sensitivities. My nervous system was at a level code red and I had a full on mom meltdown at my son's baseball game. My son was clearly experiencing his own kind of meltdown, that triggered me into both os us losing our sh*t in public. HOWEVER! There is a positive spin to this story as it really showed me how regulating myself, and being aware of my own triggers, can better help me manage my son when he gets into that state. My calm can help him find his.  Why is it the truth that our kids can be our greatest teachers!? Damn I wish it were easier sometimes! In this episode, I share this real moment of parenting through big emotions and dysregulation. I open up about  the struggles we have had with our son and how my triggers and the stories I was creating in my head led to  #momguilt and made this meltdown moment way bigger than it needed to be.  I explore the difference between emotions and feelings, the power of pausing instead of forcing, and how a simple hug helped me co-regulate and come back to center. If you’ve ever felt helpless during your child’s meltdown, or found yourself triggered in the moment, this episode is for you. You’re not alone! Let’s talk about how to move from chaos to calm, one breath or cuss word at a time.
