    Ep. 128: The Doctrine of Man / You Are Sinful

    In today's episode of the Text-Driven Women Podcast, we're continuing our study in the Doctrine of Man (Anthropology or Humanity) by discussing the reality and cost of sin.  Read Scripture: Genesis 3; Romans 3:23; Psalm 51 Discussion Guide:  Summarize the biblical truth shared in this lesson in two sentences.  Define sin.  Read Genesis 3:1-24. What was God's prohibition about the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Gen. 2:16-17)? How was it different from what Eve told the serpent? What did the serpent say to Eve to convince her to eat of the fruit? What sin(s) do you struggle with? What sin so easily ensnares you? Is there a pattern of sin that you need to put to death today? Explain. What is it that you are not believing about God when you fall to these sins? Read the list of consequences for Adam and Eve's sin in Genesis 3:16-19. What consequences have you faced as a result of sin? How has God shown kindness to you despite your sin? How does this text-driven truth affect the way you live your everyday life? Intentional Prayer: Take a moment confessing your sin to God. Thank Him for sending Jesus to pay for sin, and that His plan was always to redeem His people..  Meditate and Memorize: Romans 6:23

    Ep. 127: The Doctrine of Man / You Are Created Male or Female (Gender)

    In today's episode of the Text-Driven Women Podcast, we're launching into our study in the Doctrine of Man (Anthropology or Humanity) by discussing the second of five episodes in this section—you are created male or female (gender).  Read Scripture: Genesis 1-3 Discussion Guide:  Summarize the biblical truth shared in this lesson in two sentences.  Define complementarianism.  Define egalitarianism.  Define “helper” (Hb. ezer).  What areas of the home, church, and public square crumble if a solid biblical understanding and apologetic of anthropology and gender is not celebrated and championed?  In what ways do you not think rightly or text-driven about your role and function as a woman?  How does this text-driven truth affect the way you live your everyday life? Intentional Prayer: Take a moment to consider the reality of being made in God’s image, specifically in your design as woman and function as a helper. Ask God to help you view all the doctrinally faithful ways you can serve in your home, local church, and the public square as a good gift from Him.  Meditate and Memorize: Genesis 2:18 Language Studies:  Hebrew ezer = helper Hebrew ish = man Hebrew ishshah = woman

    Ep. 126: The Doctrine of Man / You Are Created in God’s Image

    In today's episode of the Text-Driven Women Podcast, we're launching into our study in the Doctrine of Man (Anthropology or Humanity) by discussing one of five episodes in this section—you are created in God’s image and likeness. Read Scripture: Genesis 1:26-31; Romans. 8:29; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Ephesians 2:8-10 Discussion Guide:  Summarize the biblical truth shared in this lesson in two sentences.  Read Genesis 1:26-31. Write the first phrase that God said in verse 26. What truth does this phrase reveal? How was the creation of humans different from God's past work of creation? Revisit Genesis 1:1-26 if needed. What do you think it means to be created in God's image? How are humans both a picture and representative of God? What makes a person a person? How does this inform the way God sees us? The way we should see ourselves? The way we should see others? What responsibility did God give the first humans (Gen. 1:28)? Read Ephesians 2:8-10. How are you described in verse 10? How are you stewarding your life and what God has given you dominion over (your things, your work, your family) for God's glory? Have you harbored wrong attitudes, taken wrong actions, or spoken hurtful words against other image-bearers you need to confess before God? Who do you need to contact to seek forgiveness for your thoughts and behavior? How does this strengthen your convictions on the sanctity of life?  How does this text-driven truth affect the way you live your everyday life? Intentional Prayer: Take a moment to consider the reality of being made in God’s image, as His craftsmanship. Ask God to help you see yourself and others in His image, seeing people through His eyes and with a gospel lens.  Meditate and Memorize: Genesis 1:26 Language Studies:  Hebrew tselem = image; derived from "to carve” Hebrew demuth = likeness; indicates "an image which is like us” Greek poiema = workmanship; from where we get our English word “poem”

    Ep. 125: The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit / The Holy Spirit Cultivates Fruit

    In today's episode of the Text-Driven Women Podcast, we're concluding our study in the Doctrine of the Holy Spirit by chatting through Galatians 5 and how it is not a sheer determination, will-power, or constant striving—but it is the Holy Spirit that cultivates fruit. Scripture Index: Galatians 1:6-7; 5:1-5; 5:16-25; John 15:5: Genesis 17:9-14 Meditate and Memorize: Galatians 5:22-23 Discussion Guide:  Summarize the biblical truth shared in this lesson in two sentences.  Read Galatians 5:16-18. What does it mean to “walk by the Spirit” (v.16)?  What’s the difference between walking and striving?  Read Genesis 17:9-14. What was the point of circumcision? How do you see evidence of the fruit of the Spirit in your life?  How does the ministry of the Spirit in verses 26-27 comfort and encourage you? What encouragement can you take with you for this week from this passage? How does this truth affect the way you live your everyday, text-driven life? Intentional Prayer: Ask God to cultivate fruit in your life through the Holy Spirit. Pray specifically about what attribute of the fruit of the Spirit can be a struggle for you. Thank God for sending the Holy Spirit to do the work that you couldn't do on your own.

List some of them. How is your life different now that you have trusted in Jesus for salvation and been sealed with the Holy Spirit? Is His seal on you obvious to the world? Explain. Spend some time this weekend reflecting on your relationship with Christ. Make sure of your standing with Christ – eternity is at risk. Intentional Prayer: Thank God for giving you the Holy Spirit as the down payment, or guarantee, of eternal life with Him and abundant life on earth. Thank Him for being a God you can know and rest assured in.

    In today's episode of the Text-Driven Women Podcast, we're launching into our study in the Doctrine of the Holy Spirit by discussing two of five episodes in this section—the Holy Spirit convicts.  Scripture Index: John 14; John 16; Isaiah 64:6; Isaiah 5:20 Scripture Memorization: John 14:26 and Isaiah 5:20 Discussion Guide:  Summarize today's key truth in 1-2 sentences. Read John 14:26, 16:8, and 16:13. Describe how the Holy Spirit teaches us and guides us according to these verses. Peruse John 15:18-25. Then read John 15:26-16:15. What were the disciples going to face shortly after Jesus' death? Why do you think Jesus chose this moment to talk about the coming of the Holy Spirit? Why does verse 7 say Jesus must go away? How would this be a benefit to the disciples? How does this truth affect the way you live your everyday life? According to John 16, what three specific things does Jesus say the Holy Spirit would convict the world about (vv. 8-11)? And why? According to John 16:12-15, how and what does the Holy Spirit speak? What would the world prefer you use as your guide rather than God's Word and the Holy Spirit? Are you currently being guided by the Holy Spirit? If not, why? If so, what is the evidence?  Notable Quote: Being led by the Holy Spirit can feel a little nebulous at times, but one thing is for sure: As your walk with the Lord deepens and your knowledge of the Word grows, you will become more and more like the One you follow. In other words, as you abide – the Spirit and His fruit will become even more evident in your life. Intentional Prayer: Thank God for sending the Holy Spirit to teach, guide, and correct you. Ask the Holy Spirit to convict you of any knowable and unrecognized sin in your life. Commit to following the guidance of the Spirit with a teachable heart. Commit to reading God’s Word for the purpose of “opening your eyes so that you may contemplate wondrous things from His instruction” (Psalm 119:18).

Intentional Prayer: Take a moment to consider the reality, power, and authority of the Holy Spirit as part of the Godhead. Thank God for the Holy Spirit's presence in your life and for the Spirit's work in making you more like Jesus (sanctification).
