mars retrograde DEEP DIVE

What exactly is a Mars Retrograde? What can we expect? I explore the perspectives of traditional and modern astrologers. Some say Mars becomes dysfunctional, others claim he becomes rebellious against social norms for masculine energy, and others that the slowness of this period can help him to focus on one particular area of our lives. In this case, the houses that Cancer and Leo occupy in our charts, and the sign/house that your Mars occupies. Regardless, we can expect impulsivity and struggles with emotional regulation, as well as defensiveness and egocentric behavior. Immaturity can be a blessing however, as we have an opportunity to explore new forms for our masculine energy. New ways to assert ourselves, new independence, and freedom. Which can be thrilling! This will be a very potent transit for Cancer, Leo, Aries, and Scorpio placements!

mars in cancer retrograde

the most potent transit of the year! (from September 2024 until April 2025) how to recognize this energy in your own life... (we are a month in and with a square from the Sun, it is a good time to identify this transit personally!) + how to work with MARS: the warrior, the rebel, the iconoclast ...at home? moodiness, restlessness, domestic conflict inconsistent motivation--why is this energy so itchy and confusing?! ...the assertive nurturer?! the emotional surgeon?! the clown?!? some answers, maybe, mostly more questions?! but nothing superficial here, deep dives only! + several chart examples: Robin Williams, Malcolm X, & Picasso + what does it mean for a planet to be exalted? Or to be in fall? (book a chart reading) striving to write astro essays that balance the spiritual and the technical...accessible, uplifting, and symbolically-rich, but detailed and honest about the more UNSAVORY aspects of transits...leave a comment, tell me how I am doing?

necropolis: alienation in an age of hyperindividualism

I unpack the myth that self-improvement and self-definition, through career or commodities or ideologies, are the only path to a meaningful life. This myth alienates us from each other and makes solidarity, and the enriching collective meaning it generates, impossible, further enslaving us within a patriarchal imperialist capitalist hell.

One Hundred Million Billion Eyes

ONE HUNDRED MILLION BILLION EYES: the second in a series I have written on confusion. Death-bed, fever dream, f****d-up acid trip confusion. Like when you forget if you said something out loud or just thought it, then realize you haven't spoken just as a stranger replies and you're not sure if it was a coincidence, or if they read your mind, or if you really did speak. Or when the sound of the wind, by the sea, or the rain, when it pours, makes it hard to think and you become calm, become the pattering, splatting rain and colors run, boundaries blur, until you cannot see the street signs and are lost as in a dream and as in a dream, you encounter shape-shifting truths, paradoxical insights you have been seeking for years and years. I believe there is divinity in these moments of idiocy. That when stop grasping for solid truths, find faith and humility, when we accept ourselves as creatures of limited awareness, we are given in return obscure insight, glimpses of unspeakable wonders. This story is a love letter to the lovely, lonely walks I took in Portland this Winter and the melancholy of the PNW. The urge to lay down in some marshy crook of a park and decompose, let the rain dissolve you and the mushrooms eat you. I encourage you to listen to the audio version. This is the first of several collaborations I will be doing with producer-musician extraordinaire AEVA. He has soundtracked the entire story, giving it atmosphere and texture. If you are not normally a reader, or haven't yet engaged with my writing, this is the story for you. Give it a listen and tell me what you think in the comments xoxoxo GG
