Lake Highlands beat Berkner 31-28 in a game with plenty going on after the whistle, and the Wildcats start district play 2-0. Lake Highlands 21, Plano East 14: Mr. Tibbs Takes Over | Berkner Next

Lake Highlands opens district play 1-0. The Wildcats ground out a 21-14 win at Plano East, and head coach Cory Campbell tells Matt Mosley the tough non-district schedule had a lot to do with it. Chris Thibodeaux, "Mr. Tibbs" on the radio call, finished with 11 catches for 177 yards and three touchdowns, and the defense played great all night. Also in this one: two red-zone trips that came up empty because Campbell went for it instead of kicking, and his take on it: "We should have kicked both of them." Plus junior nose guard Jeremiah Lane's best game yet, how Conrad Ince and Mason Spangler keep Plano East's safeties deep, a sideline headset conversation that somehow reached the officials, the unsung hero of the week, and a scouting report on Berkner, the most athletic team Lake Highlands has seen so far. Cory Campbell on the Wylie Film: "My Mistakes" | Lake Ridge Next

Lake Highlands is 1-1 after a 41-26 loss at Wylie, and head coach Cory Campbell doesn't dress it up: three turnovers, bad first-down efficiency, and a defense that forced six punts and gave up six touchdown drives. Matt Mosley gets him on the record about the honest Monday film session — "coaches' mistakes, my mistakes, players' mistakes" — before homecoming week against a Mansfield Lake Ridge team carrying seven Division I players. Also in this one: an injury read on quarterback John Cothern, why five sophomores on the field is the real story of Friday night, the two red-zone drives that produced nothing, Cam Harper getting tripped up at the four, and a 20-year Lake Highlands Middle School fixture finally coming up the hill.
