This is an enjoyable podcast, but don’t kid yourself this it is not a free podcast that you enhance, to bump up from amateur historian, to professional level. It’s better than when the show was in its infancy. In the beginning, it really was just a long runtime advertisement. Every few moments we were told that the narrator would love to be able to fill us in on detail, but this is only a 10 minute long podcast. We were left on our own, to finish the sentence…the show is 10 minutes long…and we have to spend half that time telling you there is no time. Now it is 30 minutes long. Much better. So why do I say not to kid yourself about its freeness? Example in season 7, there are 39 episodes. Over half of those episodes are behind a paywall. That’s not a free podcast, that out of goodness of the heart, a bonus or two episodes are behind paywalls, for the history junkie that has to look behind everything, hoping to unlock a piece of knowledge. I’d love to be able to help every podcaster that I listen to and enjoy, they need to get paid, I understand. But it gets dis heartening, when you’ve supported a podcast, since its inception, supported many show since they were just radio programs and not podcasts yet, and then told, “you’re not worthy of the entire show” I’m disabled, very fixed income, I truly can’t afford another expenditure, even a small one. I’ve stopped listening to some podcasts, because there is the hint of me being a man of no integrity and that I’m stealing, if I don’t subscribe. This show doesn’t do this, but it does, more than any other show I listen to, use its time to promote itself. Every 5-7 minutes, sometimes more, the show stops and spends 2-3 minutes to detail how how great it is, on other side of the curtain.
