This is Paula (alias Mause) and this podcast essentially serves as an outlet for my thoughts on music, media and art - before I embarrass myself in a university seminar instead. I will talk about anything that sparks my interest, including but not limited to: whatever I learn at/for uni and what I struggle with, commentary on music I’ve been listening to, occasional opinions on art and lots of analysis on things that mean a lot to me (video game, film and anime music but also mainly Princess Tutu). Sometimes I will drop personal stories but I will try to keep that to a minimum.     Episode 6: Rescoring and SILENCE in YuGiOh: Duel Monsters *again*

    hello dear listeners, here I am with another YuGiOh episode that no one cares about but I am obsessed with this franchchise and how the scoring works and since I did an episode exactly like this for 5Ds, I felt like I had to do it for the original seasons, Duel Monsters, as well.     Episode 5: The joy of loving something and the drama of loving someone with Princess Jellyfish

    "Every girl is born a princess, some just forget is all." hello dear listeners, during a period of sickness (I had a nasty cold that wouldn't go away) I first watched Kuragehime/Princess Jellyfish and liked it so much that last week I started and finished the manga. I came to notice that it touched me in such profound ways, that I really wanted to talk about it and since I haven't uploaded an episode in a while, here we are. In this little think piece I want to examine what I got from the story under three categories, that all resonated very personally with me but that I also found to just be really fun in general: the beauty of obsessing over something, how fashion can transform people and the romance within the story (it is a josei after all). I also used the opportunity to test my new microphone! It is a little weird, I must admit. I am still getting used to it, so please bear with me. that being said, i hope you enjoy this episode and maybe check out Princess Jellyfish yourself, if you haven't.     Episode 4: Manifestations of the Ordinary (in: The Boy and the Heron, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and Porco Rosso)

    hello dear listeners, it has been a while since my last episode but I wanted to talk to you about a little phenomenon I was thinking about when watching three movies in a week in January: The Boy and the Heron, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya and Porco Rosso and it is something they all have in common, which is that they find elaborate, fantastical ways to express very common themes and emotions. Emotions that are so common in fact, that technically everyone should be able to relate to them one way or another. I hope you enjoy this episode, even if it is not as clear perhaps what I mean. I am always super curious to hear what you guys think about these movies, so if you've seen even one of them, tell me about what you think! anyways!     Episode 3: Netflix' One Piece adaptation (is it good?)

    hello dear listeners, today I bring you: is the One Piece live action adaptation good? Certainly a subjective question but after a history of commonly disliked Netflix adaptations of beloved anime, One Piece is the thing that comes closest to a success. Statistically speaking, there is no doubt about it. But what do I personally think? What, in my eyes, makes a good live action adaptation? I compare OPLA with the Netflix adaptation of Cowboy Bebop that I (and a majority of the internet) enjoyed a great deal less. Plus, I give you my favorite moments and little details of Netflix' interpretation of the East Blue Saga - one of my favorite pieces of media, period.     Episode 2: Censorship and tone-shifts in YuGiOh 5Ds *again*

    hello dear listeners, after a few months of hiatus I am back to nerd out about YuGiOh 5Ds, once again. Upon my second rewatch I noticed a few things in terms of censorship and tone shifts. This is the firsst case I have come across where a regional dubbing and censorship thing lead to a completely new instrumental score which has an interesting effect on subtext and ambiance and I wanted to share my thoughts on this. Also I fangirl too hard, as per usual. For illustrative purposes (and since I am hilariously bad at describing music for a musicology student) I have here a few links to tracks I am talking about. First and foremost, since the American Dub Score was never officially released, I cannot redirect you to specific tracks BUT I can give you this nicely filtered track that I am 99% sure plays in EP3 of the dub, at the beginning of the duel between Officer Trudge and Yusei that I describe in the episode. A majority of the duels sound about the same. Here's the link: Unreleased, Filtered Dub Duel Track Next, here's a general comparison between what I call Dub-Yusei's "Summoning Jingle" and what I consider his main synchro-summoning theme in the original Japanese dub: "Yusei Theme" ("遊星テーマ") Now there's the other Japanese Dub Tracks I talk about in the episode. First, in Ruka/Luna's battle against the Psychoanalytic: 1) "Incident" ("事件") 2) "Unrest" ("不穏") 3) "Psychological Warfare" ("心理戦") 4) Ruka/Luna Duel Theme Second, the track I described that plays when Dark Signer-Carly enters the scene before her duel against Jack: "Destiny" ("運命") And last, but definitely not least, the Masaaki Endoh song that plays in the Japanese dub when Yusei summons Shooting Star Dragon for the first time (it's a fan favorite, for a reason): Masaaki Endoh - Clear Mind I hope this is even remotely interesting to listen to. I could think about this for hours and hours it's so fun to me how soundtracks work.     Episode 1: First Quarter of 2023 (Art, YGO 5Ds *again*, TriStamp, The Weeknd's Starboy, Tatsuro Yamashita and more!)

    hello dear listeners, this episode is going live with a delay of a couple months actually. I didn't get around to uploading it sooner but I did not want to miss it after all. In this one I talk about just a couple things that I did, watched and listened to in the first few month of 2023. Disclaimer: The audio quality of this is weird, I will try to look into mixing and mastering the next episodes more. I'm still playing around with software and editing styles etc. which is sadly just gonna be part of this podcast. I hope it's bearable. Also, I was sick recording this episode, so please also bear with the occasional sniffle. that being said: I will hopefully not let you wait too long until the next episode.     Introducing: The MOUSEHOLD Podcast

    Hello dear listeners, to everyone who has been here before: this is my attempt at re-launching this podcast and opening my concept to make it less stressful for me. The concept is still the same but I will actually try and follow through with covering only things that interest me :). Wish me luck! to everyone who is new: My name is Paula (or Mausey, whatever you prefer) and this is a place for me to ramble about the things I enjoy, be it music, art exhibits I enjoyed, movies I watched, shows that inspire me... you name it. Deeply nerdy, deeply random, unapologetically obsessed with unorthodox obsessions like that anime from 2008 for kids about a nuclear catastrophe, psychic cults and card games on motorcycles... I may be cringe, but alas, I am free.
