Preliminary injunction week for the WSU Cougs: the gloves are off

Episode disclaimer: we had some background static at times during the episode this week, which we’re working on fixing for future episodes. Thank you for your patience! Legal filings have never been so sexy. Adam and Sara discuss WSU finally filing for a preliminary injunction against the Pac-12, George Kliavkoff AND the University of Washington. Several pieces of pretty clear evidence that USC and UCLA were removed from the Pac-12 board upon their notices of withdrawal were included in the filing. UW wants the case dismissed, and WSU isn’t going down silently. “The evidence we have uncovered thus far in discovery overwhelmingly shows this is consistent with the position that the conference and the departing members themselves had taken up until just weeks before Oregon State and Washington State were forced to file our litigation… Absent a preliminary injunction, nothing would stop the ten departing schools from seizing control of the Conference and distributing its assets to themselves on their way out the door.” In case it isn’t clear yet, it’s about to get ugly, and UW looks like they’re ready to drag it out. Adam and Sara also do a quick post-mortem on Oregon and ask ourselves (and you all) what comes next for the Cougs. Go Cougs! Like the podcast? Leave us a rating or review. Cougs and Beavs vs Everybody: WSU and OSU win in court

WSU and OSU secure a crucial victory in their complaint against the Pac-12 conference and Commissioner George Kliavkoff by obtaining a temporary restraining order against the Pac-12, which will prevent the conference from conducting meetings or taking action beyond what is necessary to keep the lights on. However, the judge ruled that the conference could make unanimous decisions on relevant matters while they wait for a full legal decision on who is entitled to sit on the Pac-12 board of directors. That hearing is expected to be scheduled in the coming weeks. What’s at stake? Beyond contemplating the future viability of WSU and OSU’s athletic programs, there may be a pot of gold at the end of this rocky road that would help the programs build a path forward. Though the conference has been evasive regarding their current financial assets, an estimated $500 million is expected to be generated in revenue this season, which would be on top of whatever assets are already in the bank so to speak. The Cougs and the Beavs are looking to the future, and it seems, at least for now, that they are heading in a brighter direction. Join Adam and Sara as they break it all down for you.
