This podcast from the Nawi Collective aims to create a space for oral documentation between and about African women working to tackle macro - economic inequalities using a Pan African, feminist lens. The podcast will examine how global economic and structural inequalities bear down on African women and affect their access to resources and essential services from health to education. It will also interrogate how to re-imagine a future that is inclusive and just using a Pan African feminist approach.

    Episode 2: The Weaving and the Tapestry: Measuring Change Through Story

    What counts as legitimate evidence when measuring change, and who gets to decide? In episode two of our *Reimagining Impact* series, host Elizabeth Maina continues the conversation with action researcher and Nawi associate Josephine Njungi to explore what it truly means to center lived experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL). Moving beyond traditional metrics that treat stories, songs, and collective reflections as mere "illustrative color," Elizabeth and Josephine examine oral documentation as rigorous, transformative evidence. Drawing on practical experiences—from children mapping out basic needs to women in Kajiado navigating the Most Significant Change technique—they unpack the discomfort and ethics of ceding power, sitting with the messiness of real life, and resisting the pressure to sanitize complex human journeys into neat, linear donor reports. Plus, Josephine breaks down three concrete, actionable steps for organizations ready to step away from analysis paralysis and put feminist, community-centered documentation into practice.     Episode 1: Beyond Anticipatory Obedience: Feminist MEL in Practice

    What does it mean to measure impact when traditional frameworks were never built to capture the realities of African women's lives? In the kickoff episode of our new series, *Reimagining Impact*, host Elizabeth Maina sits down with action researcher and Nawi associate Josephine Njungi to challenge conventional Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL). Together, they unpack the pressures of "anticipatory obedience" to donor frameworks, the extraction of rigid metrics, and what gets erased when we ignore social capital, community care, and lived experience. From redesigning reporting templates to hold space for dreaming, relational trust, and failure, this conversation explores how a Pan-African feminist approach can transform MEL from a rigid compliance exercise into a dynamic, political sandbox for genuine systemic change.     Beyond Neoliberalism Series: The Messy Middle (Part 2) with Wangari Kinoti

    There is a wealth of African feminist academic and activist research and knowledge on neoliberalism and its impacts in the majority world. Yet, this knowledge has, for the most part, been removed from conversations on neoliberalism and its ideological and policy tenets and generally disregarded which is a function and consequence of neoliberalism itself. Recognizing this ActionAid International, Akina Mama wa Afrika and The Nawi Collective  co-convened a series of conversations among African feminists challenging neoliberalism and proposing alternatives towards a collective vision for the African continent and its people. The first of these conversations was held in Nairobi in February 2025 This podcast series: Beyond Neoliberalism ( Weaving a feminist future together) is a series of conversations borne out of the convening held in February 2025, that will interrogate, propose, shape and document pan-African feminist narratives beyond neoliberalism.  This is done in recognition that we are building on decades worth of work. Our intention is to contribute to reinvigorating, documenting and amplifying. connecting key movements, thinkers, creatives and activists. This episode is an opportunity to reflect on the learnings from the convening and the Jacaranda Paper in envisioning a feminist future and how to get people involved with our guest Wangari Kinoti (Action Aid International).
