The Other Side of the Mirror — The Questions We’re Still Allowed to Ask

What if the feeling you’re most certain about still has another side worth looking at? Some tender territory. A little discomfort. Room to feel more than one thing. The other side of a gut punch — a conversation between friends opens a question about loss that James can’t quite put down. Two prayers at the same piano — a scene from Doc holds love and letting go in the same room. The thought we’re “not supposed” to have — what happens when James gets curious about an uncomfortable reaction instead of hiding it? Who put that belief in the box? — the protective lessons of childhood get a second look from the person living with them now. A scrape on the nose — James wonders what our stumbles might reveal about the things that set our souls on fire. A fire needs somewhere to breathe — the image of a bottled-up flame gets unexpectedly personal. “Trust me enough to give me part of your burden” — a moment at the gym opens something tender about being seen in the struggle. The 47s, the 26s, and the 113s — looking again doesn’t always mean turning all the way around. What I want my sunset to look like — memories of Granny Bullard bring James back to a question about his own life, and what he hopes to leave unfinished. Make room for your own answers. ICYMI - You Can’t Step in the Same River Twice — Coming Home to a Different You

What if coming home feels different because you’ve finally given yourself room to grow? Back in Sydney, James Bullard follows a familiar meal into bigger questions about belonging, change, and how much of ourselves we hold back to keep home comfortable. You can love where you came from. You can be nervous about what’s next. There’s room for both. Same river, different feet — what happens when you return expecting the currents you remember? A cabbage pancake with a plot twist — the favorite meal that didn’t quite match the picture James carried back to Sydney. Home didn’t hit pause — the quiet expectation tucked inside every “I can’t wait to go back.” “Good enough for Grandpa” — would the people who raised us really want us to stop asking questions? The people packed inside you — church family, gym family, and the brief connections that somehow come along for life. “You’ve changed” — why those two words can sound like an accusation when they might be something to celebrate. Nothing more important than waving at a baby — a tiny interruption with a very clear sense of priorities. The Brussels sprouts of your journey — the people who test your patience, and the days when you need half an hour apart. Chartreuse, aubergine, ochre — James’s wish for an emotional life with more colors than black, white, and gray. This episode isn’t here to fix you. You’re allowed to carry your people with you, ask questions they can’t answer, and come home with a perspective they haven’t met yet. You don’t have to apologize for enjoying the life you’re growing into. Success, Reconsidered: The Unexpected Way Forward with Robbie Samuels

What if the thing you’re working so hard to create isn’t the finish line—but the beginning of a much bigger conversation?   In this episode of Radical Joy, James sits down with author, speaker, and entrepreneurial book strategist Robbie Samuels to talk reinvention, meaningful metrics, waking up the network you already have, and why creating something worth sharing is only half the story. The book he almost didn’t write — and the expertise he never expected it to unlock. Ten years to “overnight” — then two months later, everything changed. When the world hit pause — Robbie started experimenting. This and this and this — making room for more than one professional identity. The audience you already have — why your network may matter more than your list. Write where they are — not where you wish they were. Maybe don’t write the book — the surprisingly freeing question Robbie asks first. Strategy over vanity — what lasts after the bestseller ribbon disappears. “I want to write a book.” Great. Why? — the question underneath the ambition. Good work still needs a way to be found — because creating it is only part of the story. You’re allowed to decide for yourself what actually counts.   You’re allowed to change direction. You’re allowed to discover that one piece of your story leads somewhere you never planned to go. And you’re allowed to decide for yourself what actually counts. We’re really, really glad you’re here. 💛 Connect with Robbie  30-minute book launch brainstorming session with Robbie Author Resources recommendation from Robbie Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/radical-joy-with-james-bullard--5644728/support. 🌹🧡🟡🌳🔷🟪🤎🖤❔  ❤️🍊🟨💚💙💜🟤🖤❕❕ Take care of yourself, take care of each other, and breathe!   ❤️🍊🟨💚💙💜🟤🖤❕❕  🌹🧡🟡🌳🔷🟪🤎🖤❔   Got something on your mind? Showing Up — Even When You’d Rather Chew Bumblebees

What if the hardest part of showing up isn’t the thing itself—but getting past the gravity that keeps you from starting? Getting past your own gravity — why starting can burn more fuel than the thing itself.   The bumblebee level of resistance — when almost anything sounds better than doing the damn thing.   Five, four, three, two, one… up — the tiny countdown that leaves no room for negotiating with the sofa.    When the list becomes the problem — sometimes 26 tasks need to become eight before your brain will come along.    The little one-eyed escape hatch — what reaching for the phone can tell us about the feeling we’d rather leave behind.   Stay in the quiet — what happened when James touched the phone, left it there, and kept asking the sticky questions.   Distraction steals the nuance — the thing we miss when discomfort sends us straight down the nearest dopamine rabbit hole.   Whose voice is that, anyway? — when an old belief starts sounding less like you and more like somebody from a long time ago.   Authenticity gets complicated — where someone else’s feelings, your intentions, and your self-respect all meet.   Press the little red button — because sometimes action goes first and motivation has to catch up. You’re allowed to need a minute. You’re allowed to choose your silly. And you’re allowed to begin before you feel ready. Put Yourself in Your Place — Feel Silly. Do the Thing

What if “knowing your place” had less to do with shrinking yourself—and everything to do with choosing where you get to grow? Aspirational excellence — what if you aimed just a little higher than comfortable? Find a smarter room — being outmatched might be exactly where the learning starts. The enthusiasm center, at volume nine — reading the room without turning yourself down to three. Go where you’re appreciated — growth can also mean finding somewhere your gifts have somewhere to land. Twenty years of wanting to dance — until one night, not knowing how stopped mattering. Put your money where your heart is — feel silly, step on toes, learn the thing anyway. Failure has a 5-6-7-8 — and sometimes you’re still standing there like a goon when it passes. Flip the pancake — when you’ve done your dead-level best and that side is simply going to be burnt. Choose better water — find the people who help you become a stronger swimmer. How audacious of you — to think highly enough of yourself to go where you might actually grow. Maybe you don’t need fixing. Maybe there’s simply a room you’ve been nervous to enter, a thing you’ve wanted for twenty years, a version of yourself you’ve kept at a polite distance—or a dance floor waiting for you to stop worrying about whether you know the steps. You’re allowed to put yourself somewhere your joy has room to move. Making Your Own Bread — When the World Hands You the Middle of the Sandwich

What if the part of getting better nobody warns you about is how ridiculous, exposed, and occasionally downright terrible it can feel while you’re doing it? An honest conversation about the uncomfortable reality of learning something new. Sometimes growth looks less like a breakthrough and more like making the messy middle easier to swallow. Beginner meets dance floor — one salsa partner, several collisions, and a very public lesson in learning without your dignity intact. Embarrassment didn’t kill me — the worst part happened…and somehow, the song still ended. The “we’re done here” high five — sometimes persistence means finishing the dance, not signing up for another one. The disco stage was right there — what happens when retreating to something you’re already good at starts looking really appealing. Swimming with sharks — being the least-skilled person in the room comes with a few bites. Make them suffer through your Dutch — because switching back to comfortable might be the very thing keeping you from getting better. When shame brings friends — one embarrassing moment, and suddenly every old one wants to join the party. Find your own bread — when the world supplies the terrible middle, what makes it palatable enough to keep going? The breakdown counts, too — growth sometimes includes soreness, bruised confidence, and actual recovery. Band-Aid or defibrillator? — sometimes self-improvement has beaten the stuffing out of you, and tending to yourself is the work. We’re really, really glad you’re here. 💛 Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/radical-joy-with-james-bullard--5644728/support. 🌹🧡🟡🌳🔷🟪🤎🖤❔  ❤️🍊🟨💚💙💜🟤🖤❕❕ Take care of yourself, take care of each other, and breathe!   ❤️🍊🟨💚💙💜🟤🖤❕❕  🌹🧡🟡🌳🔷🟪🤎🖤❔   Got something on your mind? What We Choose to Grow with Dr. Kim Nugent — When Possibility Finds You Anyway

What if there’s more to the story than the moment, we decided was enough? Today with our Guest Dr. Kim Nugent we are talking about all kinds of things and it is a doozy! The story after the sentence — where curiosity usually disappears.  “They’re coming home” — and who they’ll be when they do. Purpose as interruption — meaning shifting behavior from the inside out. A room of four and real honesty — sometimes for the very first time. What’s finally said out loud — and what that unlocks. From “what I need” to “how can I help” — even from behind bars. The part we don’t see — $25, 72 hours, and everything at stake. The brilliance we overlook — because we stopped looking. Dignity, no qualifiers — just human, from the start.
