EP4-6 | Ex-Anthropic Dev Warns on AI Control as Someone Builds Transparent AI in Taiwan

In this episode, we sit down with Ninad Jagdish, founder of Dwnrt Absrd and creator of SupaSim, an AI platform that models and simulates how organizations work. Ninad argues that while AI systems like ChatGPT can know a lot, that doesn’t necessarily mean they understand how a business or organization actually works. So what’s missing? Ninad believes AI needs explicit models that people can inspect, test, and challenge. We discuss what SupaSim can do differently from ChatGPT, spreadsheets, and consultants, how we know when its models are wrong, and why he argues that memory and skills alone aren’t enough for AI. We also tackle the bigger question of AI control. As researchers warn about increasingly capable AI systems, could making AI’s models more transparent help keep humans in control? And with Taiwan pushing for transparency, explainability, and human oversight in AI, could Taiwan become a place to build and test a different approach? In this episode, you'll learn: Why more data doesn’t necessarily mean AI understands a businessWhat SupaSim does differently from ChatGPT or a spreadsheetWhy Ninad believes AI needs more than memory and skillsHow transparent models could help humans question AI decisionsWhat AI safety concerns mean for SupaSim’s approachHow Taiwan fits into the push for more transparent AIWhat happens if AI eventually moves from testing decisions to making them前 Anthropic 開發者提出 AI 控制警訊:這家台灣新創如何以「透明模型」守護人類主導權? ft. EP4-5 | Taiwan is Brewing a Different Kind of Coffee

In this episode, we sit down with Jenny Hsu, a former Web3 operator who went from managing P&Ls, restructuring teams, and scaling startups to spending nearly three years working on farms, coral reefs, and regenerative agriculture. That unexpected journey eventually brought her back to entrepreneurship — this time through coffee. Jenny is now building ventures around regenerative agriculture and coffee, including Omawild, which she describes as “a nature fund disguised as coffee.” We talk about why she walked away from tech, what she discovered in Indonesia, why coffee became the vehicle for her bigger mission, and whether regenerative agriculture can actually scale without losing what makes it regenerative. In this episode, you'll learn: Why Jenny walked away from the Web3 worldWhat she discovered through regenerative agriculture and coral restorationWhy coffee became her next businessWhat we don't see behind a bag of coffeeHow Omawild connects coffee with nature restorationWhether regenerative agriculture can actually scaleWhat Jenny is bringing back to Taiwan從 Web3 到再生農業:她如何用一杯咖啡打造「偽裝成咖啡的自然基金」? ft. EP4-4 | From Luxembourg to Taiwan: Building in Europe, Developing in Asia, Innovating in Taiwan

In this episode, we sit down with Richard “Rick” Wiltgen, founder of RideFair, whose entrepreneurial journey has taken him across Europe and Asia before bringing him to southern Taiwan. After spending some 20 years in Asia and most recently running a company in Luxembourg, Rick could have chosen many places to build his next venture. Instead, he chose Taiwan, and specifically Kaohsiung. He shares what building in Luxembourg taught him, why Asia remains central to developing his business, and what he found in Taiwan that made it the place to build and innovate. That decision also led him to an overlooked problem. From couriers and university shuttles to elderly-care vehicles, Rick saw fleets still making routing decisions with limited tools and little evidence of whether a better route could actually save them time or money. That became the foundation for RideFair, which uses a fleet’s own historical data to test what could have happened differently before asking operators to trust a new system. Rick also explains how his background in history shaped that approach, why he believes trust rather than optimization is the real challenge, and where AI belongs once it can prove that it actually performs better. From Luxembourg to Kaohsiung, this is a conversation about what it takes to build across markets, why location still matters for founders, and why Rick believes Taiwan can be a place not just to enter Asia, but to build what comes next. In this episode, you'll learn: What Rick learned from building businesses across Europe and AsiaWhy he chose Taiwan for his next companyWhy Kaohsiung, rather than Taipei, became the home of RideFairWhat he discovered about how commercial fleets still make routing decisionsHow RideFair uses a fleet’s own historical data to test better routes before asking operators to trust its technologyWhy Rick believes trust, not optimization, is the missing piece in the industryHow his background in history inspired RideFair’s approach to asking, “What would have happened otherwise?”Where AI fits, and why Rick believes it should prove itself before making decisions for a live fleetWhat his experience says about Taiwan’s potential as a place for international founders to build and innovate從盧森堡到台灣:跨足歐亞市場,為何他選擇落腳高雄打造車隊智慧路網? ft. 巨思媒體集團#GlobalFounders #TaiwanStartup #StartupEcosystem🌏 Helping foreign founders navigate Taiwan’s startup ecosystem by bringing together founders, investors, and innovators to share practical insights and support more global startups in Taiwan.🔗 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paolojoseph/ 📚 Learn more about Taiwan’s startup ecosystem 👉🏼 https://meetstartup.pse.is/4jhd5u🚀 Stay connected with Taiwan–Silicon Valley innovation via the Startup Island TAIWAN Silicon Valley HubWebsite: https://sv.startupisland.tw/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/startup-island-taiwan-sv/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Startup-Island-Taiwan-Silicon-Valley-Hub/61586221303202/ Powered by Firstory Hosting

EP4-3 | Is Taiwan’s Startup Scene Going South? Inside Kaohsiung’s Emerging Founder Ecosystem

In this episode, we sit down with Arturs Vancans, founder of Second Space, to explore why he chose Kaohsiung to build his life and business, and what he is seeing as Southern Taiwan’s startup ecosystem evolves. When Arturs first arrived in Kaohsiung, the city was rarely seen as a destination for startup founders, particularly international entrepreneurs. But over the years, he has watched the ecosystem change, with more founders, startups, and ecosystem players looking beyond Taipei. Through Second Space, Arturs has had a front-row seat to that shift, building a community where entrepreneurs can work, connect, and build relationships in Southern Taiwan. We talk about what's driving founders to Kaohsiung, what kinds of startups are emerging there, and whether Taiwan’s much-discussed “going south” movement is really happening. We also explore what Kaohsiung still needs to become a startup destination in its own right, rather than simply an extension of Taipei. In this episode, you'll learn: Why Arturs chose Kaohsiung rather than TaipeiWhat inspired him to build Second SpaceHow Kaohsiung’s startup ecosystem has changed over the yearsWhether Taiwan’s startup ecosystem is really “going south”What kinds of founders and startups are choosing KaohsiungWhat entrepreneurs are looking for when they come to Southern TaiwanWhether Kaohsiung is developing a startup culture of its ownWhat needs to happen for Kaohsiung to become a startup destination in its own rightWhat success for Kaohsiung’s startup ecosystem could look like three years from now? 巨思媒體集團#GlobalFounders #TaiwanStartup #StartupEcosystem🌏 Helping foreign founders navigate Taiwan’s startup ecosystem by bringing together founders, investors, and innovators to share practical insights and support more global startups in Taiwan.🔗 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paolojoseph/ 📚 Learn more about Taiwan’s startup ecosystem 👉🏼 https://meetstartup.pse.is/4jhd5u🚀 Stay connected with Taiwan–Silicon Valley innovation via the Startup Island TAIWAN Silicon Valley HubWebsite: https://sv.startupisland.tw/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/startup-island-taiwan-sv/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Startup-Island-Taiwan-Silicon-Valley-Hub/61586221303202/ Powered by Firstory Hosting

EP4-2 |Tired of Losing the Taylor Swift Ticket Battle? This Startup in Taiwan to Fight Scalpers

Tired of Losing the Taylor Swift Ticket Battle? This Canadian Founder Built a Startup in Taiwan to Fight Scalpers In this episode, we sit down with LK Shelley, co-founder of ARMCo Lab and FanID, to explore how a frustrating concert-ticket experience led her to found a startup in Taiwan. After seeing firsthand the problems of ticket scalping, long entry queues, and the privacy concerns surrounding real-name ticketing, Shelley set out to create a different approach: a “one person, one face, one ticket” system designed to verify that someone is a real person without storing their facial data. But FanID is about more than concert tickets. Shelley sees digital identity becoming increasingly important as AI-generated content, bots, and AI agents make it harder to know whether a real person is behind an account. We also explore her journey as a Canadian entrepreneur building in Taiwan, why she chose Taiwan for her startup, what she has discovered about the local ecosystem, and what international founders should consider before deciding to build here. In this episode, you'll learn: How a concert ticketing problem inspired the creation of FanIDWhy ticket scalping and identity verification remain difficult problems to solveHow FanID approaches identity verification while protecting user privacyWhy proving you are a real human may become increasingly important in the AI eraWhy Shelley chose Taiwan as a place to build her startupWhat Taiwan offers foreign founders—and where there is still room to improveWhat international founders should know before building a startup in Taiwan搶不到泰勒絲門票憤而創業!加拿大創辦人在台打造防黃牛身分驗證新解方 ft.
