Living Outloud: How to find comfort from the Bible (Mark 15)

Send us a message! We connect pop song lyrics to the way Jesus quotes Scripture from the cross, showing how one line can carry the meaning of an entire psalm. We read Psalm 22, watch it shift from anguish to hope, and challenge ourselves to know the Bible well enough to pray it when life hurts.  • lyric quiz! • hearing “My God, my God” as Psalm 22 context  • reading Psalm 22 and noticing the tone shift  • resisting out-of-context quotes about Jesus  • learning from Jesus memorizing and praying Scripture  • collecting Bible one-liners that summon whole passages  • using Matthew 6 to fight worry and anxiety  • holding onto “even if” faith in suffering  • reading beyond verse-of-the-day posts for real comfort  • treating Scripture as peace, armor, and a sword in prayer  At outloudbible.com, you can find free resources to help you study the Bible. Mark 15-16: What He did

Send us a message! We finish the Gospel of Mark by sitting with the brutality of the cross and the shock of the empty tomb, even when it’s nowhere near Easter. I push past abstract belief and ask what it means to live like we’re truly bought by Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection power.  • why the crucifixion and resurrection should not feel seasonal  • Jesus’ willing surrender as God’s plan rather than a trap  • Mark 15 details from Pilate to Barabbas to the mocking soldiers  • the tearing of the temple curtain and the centurion’s confession  • Mark 16 at the tomb, fear, testimony, and disbelief  • the call to go and proclaim and what belief demands of daily life  • answering the objection that the sacrifice was easier because Jesus would rise  • the deeper cost of leaving heaven to become human for us  At outloudbible.com, you can find free resources to help you study the Bible. Mark 14: The cost of devotion

Send us a message! We read Mark 14 and watch Jesus move through betrayal, prayer, and trial with clear purpose rather than panic. We end with a blunt question for our own discipleship: are we all in, and where do we lean on our own strength instead of prayer.  • Mark slows down to spotlight Jesus’ final week and his intentional mission  • religious leaders seeking a stealthy way to arrest and kill Jesus  • the woman in Bethany breaking the alabaster jar as all-in devotion  • Judas choosing betrayal and looking for the right opportunity  • Passover background and Jesus as the true Passover lamb  • the Last Supper as covenant language about Jesus’ body and blood  • Jesus warning the disciples about falling away and Peter’s coming denial  • Gethsemane as honest prayer, submission, and the fight to stay alert  • the arrest and the disciples fleeing when fear takes over  • the Sanhedrin trial, false witnesses, and Jesus’ direct confession  • Peter’s three denials and the moment he remembers and weeps  • prayer as the way we are strengthened against temptation  At outloudbible.com, you can find free resources to help you study the Bible. Mark 13: It's looking kinda Biblical outside...

Send us a message! We read Mark 13 as Jesus warns that the temple will fall and tells His disciples what to watch for as history moves toward the end. We wrestle with how easy it is to separate “Bible stuff” from real life, and we call ourselves to stay alert and let Jesus’ words shape how we see the world.  • Jesus intentionally slowing down in His final week to equip His disciples for life without Him  • The shock of Jesus predicting the destruction of the temple  • Warnings about deception, false messiahs, and reading the signs without panic  • Persecution, betrayal, endurance, and the Spirit’s help when speaking under pressure  • The Son of Man’s return, the fig tree parable, and the unknown day and hour  • Rejecting compartmentalized faith and treating Jesus’ world as our world today  At outloudbible.com, you can find free resources to help you study the Bible. Mark 11-12: Not far from the kingdom...

Send us a message! We slow down with Mark as the story zooms into Jesus’ final week, watching his words and actions turn sharper as he nears the cross. We read Mark 11–12 and wrestle with what real faith looks like when Jesus confronts empty religion, answers traps, and points to love as the center of God’s will.  • Mark’s pace shift from three years to one week  • The triumphal entry and what the crowd expects  • The fig tree as a warning about fruitless faith  • The temple cleansing and the call to be a house of prayer  • Faith in God linked with prayer and forgiveness  • Religious leaders challenging Jesus’ authority  • The parable of the tenants and the rejected cornerstone  • “Give to Caesar” and loyalty to God  • Jesus correcting errors about the resurrection  • The greatest commandment as love for God and neighbor  • The widow’s offering as a picture of true devotion  At outloudbible.com, you can find free resources to help you study the Bible. Living Outloud: Does Jesus change his mind? (Mark 7)

Send us a message! We wrestle with Mark 7:24–30 and why Jesus’ words to the Syrophoenician woman can feel jarring at first read. We challenge a modern “Jesus was racist” interpretation, then pull out what the passage actually teaches about God’s unchanging character and persistent prayer.  • reading the Mark 7 encounter and naming what feels uncomfortable  • rejecting modern cultural projection that reframes Jesus as morally flawed  • why “changing His mind” does not mean God repents  • biblical examples where God responds to intercession and repentance  • holding justice and mercy together without contradiction  • three qualities that move the conversation forward: humility, persistence, trust in God’s goodness  • how this story should reshape the way we pray and keep praying  At outloudbible.com, you can find free resources to help you study the Bible. Mark 10: Jesus' ministry in one chapter

Send us a message! We address Jesus’ “salted with fire” teaching by connecting salt to purity and fire to trials that refine the heart. Then we read Mark 10 and sit with the parts of Jesus that comfort us and the parts that confront us.  • salt, sacrifice, and inner purity tied to Leviticus 2:13 and Mark 9  • divorce, hard hearts, and God’s design for marriage  • welcoming children and receiving the kingdom with trust  • the rich man’s sorrow and the cost of letting go  • “with humans it is impossible” and why God can save  • leaving everything to follow Jesus and the promise of reward with persecutions  • Jesus predicting his suffering, death, and resurrection  • servant leadership and greatness defined by service  • Bartimaeus’ bold faith and Jesus’ question “What do you want me to do for you?”  At outloudbible.com, you can find free resources to help you study the Bible.
