    Episode #61 Matching Scars

n Episode #61 of LUID State Of Mind, Darren Lawson joins us for a powerful conversation about sport, family, resilience, health and the scars that tell a story. Darren has spent a lifetime committed to sport and physical fitness, a passion that has carried through to his children and their own sporting lives. But his journey as a father began with an enormous challenge. His first-born daughter was diagnosed before birth with a hole in her heart, leaving Darren and his wife facing the incredibly difficult decision of whether to continue the pregnancy. They chose to continue, and today their daughter has grown into a healthy young woman, living life and playing the sports she loves. Years later, Darren faced his own major health battle when doctors discovered a tumour inside his rib cage. Surgery was required to remove it, leaving Darren with a scar remarkably similar to his daughter's — giving this episode its title, Matching Scars. Darren talks openly about the surgery, the recovery process and the challenge of rebuilding his physical strength. Now on the other side of it, his focus is firmly on getting back to peak physical performance, enjoying life and travelling with his wife. We also get into Darren's love of the gym and HYROX, what decades of training have taught him about staying fit as you get older, and why looking after your health needs to involve more than simply exercising. Most importantly, Darren's story reinforces a message we keep coming back to on LUID State Of Mind: Go to your doctor. Get checked. Don't ignore the signs.

    Episode #60 Getting Out

In Episode #60 of LUID State Of Mind, we sit down with Anthony Grisancich, host of the Getting Out Podcast, for a conversation about getting outdoors, creating content and making time for the people who matter. Anthony’s passion for camping, 4WD adventures and the outdoors goes well beyond escaping the daily grind. We talk about the freedom that comes from getting away from the noise, sitting around a fire, exploring new places and sharing those experiences with family and friends. Anthony also takes us behind the scenes of Getting Out and discusses what drives him to create content and share his adventures. But this episode goes much deeper than camping. Anthony opens up about mental health, the breakdown of a marriage and the challenges of supporting your kids through separation while trying to keep yourself moving forward. We discuss the importance of having good people around you, the value of strong friendships and family support, and why sometimes you need to accept that you don't have to handle everything alone. Anthony also talks about High Performing Fathers, a group that has helped provide him with practical coping mechanisms, perspective and support during difficult periods of his life. It leads into a broader conversation about fatherhood, resilience and the importance of men having other men around them who they can genuinely talk to. We also tackle something almost every busy family struggles with — time. If quality family time matters, sometimes you have to actually put it in the schedule. Work, commitments and everyday life will happily consume every spare minute unless you deliberately make your family a priority. Camping. Content creation. Fatherhood. Marriage breakdowns. Mental health. Friendship. Family. And finding a way to get back to what really matters. Sometimes the best thing you can do is simply GET OUT.

    Episode #59 Still Naturally Talented

Shane Antrobus returns to LUID State Of Mind for an honest and inspiring conversation about the world of running—from the community spirit of park runs to the brutal challenge of ultra-distance events, and everything in between. Having both completed the legendary Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea, Shane and Brendon share their firsthand experiences of one of the world's most demanding treks. They discuss the physical preparation, training, nutrition, mental toughness, resilience, and mindset required to push through when your body wants to quit but your mind refuses to. The conversation goes well beyond running. Together they explore the connection between physical fitness, mental wellbeing, purpose, and living a life of adventure. They challenge the idea of simply growing older and instead embrace the philosophy: "It's not about adding years to your life; it's about adding life to your years." Whether you're an experienced runner, thinking about tackling your first event, planning an epic adventure like Kokoda, or simply looking for motivation to live a healthier, more fulfilling life, this episode is packed with practical insights, personal stories, and plenty of laughs along the way. If you enjoyed Shane's first appearance on LUID State Of Mind, you're going to love this follow-up conversation. Strap on your running shoes and join us for an episode that proves you're never too old to challenge yourself and that some people are simply... Still Naturally Talented.
