    S2E20 :: ROUTINE

    In this conversation, Lenny discusses the significance of establishing routines to enhance creativity and productivity. He shares his personal approach to time management, emphasizing the balance between discipline and freedom. Lenny outlines his structured creative process, the importance of setting goals, and the transformative effects of routines on mental clarity and focus. He encourages listeners to reflect on their routines and make adjustments to align with their desired life outcomes. JOURNAL PROMPT: Where are you in your routine? Is it giving you a sense of accomplishment? Does it provide the self-care you need? Is it easing your mental strain? Reflect on how satisfied you are. And if it’s not serving you, what changes could you make to align it more with the life you want to lead? ******* Research suggests that routines can significantly benefit creatives by providing a structured environment that frees up mental energy, allowing for greater focus and creativity on more complex tasks, essentially "priming" the brain for innovative thinking by reducing cognitive load on mundane daily activities; this is particularly supported by studies on the link between regular work processes and improved creative output.  Key points from research on routines and creativity: ·       Reduced cognitive load: When repetitive tasks are part of a routine, the brain doesn't need to expend as much energy on decision-making, allowing more mental capacity for creative endeavors.  ·       Improved focus and concentration: A structured routine can help creatives stay focused on their work, leading to better idea generation and execution.  ·       Enhanced mental clarity: By establishing regular creative habits, creatives can tap into a more focused and clear state of mind, promoting better problem-solving and innovation.  ·       Reduced anxiety and stress: Routines can provide a sense of stability and control, which can alleviate stress and anxiety that might otherwise hinder creativity.  Relevant research examples: ·       Studies on "flow state": Research on the "flow state" - a highly focused and productive mental state - often highlights the importance of routine and consistent practice as a way to access this optimal creative zone. ·       Cognitive psychology research: Studies in cognitive psychology demonstrate how habitual behaviors (like parts of a routine) can become automated, freeing up cognitive resources for more complex tasks. ·       Workplace studies: Studies in creative industries often show a correlation between established work routines and higher levels of creative output among individuals and teams.  Important considerations when creating a creative routine: ·       Flexibility within structure: While routines are beneficial, it's important to allow for flexibility to adapt to unexpected situations and maintain creativity.  ·       Personalization: The best creative routine is tailored to individual needs and creative style.  ·       Balance and breaks: Incorporate time for rest and relaxation into your routine to prevent burnout and maintain optimal creative energy. ******* The Creative Act: A Way of Being By Rick Rubin https://a.co/d/5cflhUP AFFIRMATION WALLPAPERS: https://www.lennyharold.com/emporium   For more visit: www.LennyHarold.com Follow on IG: @CosmicRadioPodcast
