Just some Dungeons and Dragons 5E nonsense. It’s nice to have a record so when we play 5 weeks later we can listen back beforehand and pick up right where we left off.

    Ep 97 Throat Portal

The episode opens in the charred wreckage of a castle where the party stitches themselves together between trash-talking and tallying the absurdities of their last battle: fog clouds, frozen clouds, grapples, explosions, and a body pile that somehow survived the chaos. As the characters argue, gloat, and loot, an uncanny, ever-watching eye—Ancev’s scrying portal—hovers above them, shrinking as their fallen foe’s influence wanes. Tension hums beneath the jokes: is the enemy truly dead? Is the portal closing? Or is this a prelude to something worse? Before they can answer, a titanic, semi-psychic Elder Dragon appears — equal parts mentor and deity — and heals, empowers, and teases the group with gifts that will change them forever: levels gained, spells granted, a charisma lift, and the promise of dragonblood that ripples through their lineage. The dragon’s blessing is both intoxicating and ominous; the party is offered new power but told of a looming invasion—Ancev’s forces are marshaling a final push and their ally Lady Cardan’s body has been turned into a gateway. With time ticking, the dragon fashions a sanctum for a restorative long rest. Over cigars and crude jokes, the players pick through new spells, feats, and familiars while banter keeps the dread at bay. When their rest ends, they step to the cliff of fate: the dragon decapitates the body and reveals a swirling vortex inside, a passage into interspace. The episode tightens into breathless anticipation as the party takes initiative to enter three spectral portals—each one a distorted echo of past foes, summoning trials that mirror the campaign’s worst nightmares. Faced with a tactical choice—split forces across three paths or stand together and risk an overwhelming trio—the heroes confer, strategize, and leave the final call for the next session. The episode closes on their decision to cross the threshold, fully healed and newly leveled, with the screen cutting to black as they step into the unknown. It’s an end-of-arc breath and a hook: promised power, uneasy alliances, and a portal that may be salvation or ruin.
