    Ch. 24.2 Four Eventful Days at Capernaum After sundown in Capernaum, nearly a thousand people gather at Zebedee’s home seeking Jesus. Most are sick or have brought the sick. When Jesus steps outside and indicates his desire to see them healed—if it is the Father’s will—683 men, women, and children are restored in an instant. The Apostles are electrified. Jesus withdraws, then later explains to Peter, James, and John why a spiritual kingdom cannot be built on miracles. The next morning he refuses to return to the waiting crowd and instead leads the Apostles out on their first public preaching tour of Galilee.     Ch. 24.1, Four Eventful Days at Capernaum

    Jesus and the Apostles arrived in Capernaum on Tuesday evening and made Zebedee’s home in Bethsaida their base. News of their return spread quickly. Jesus spent three days preparing the Apostles and other believers for the first public proclamation of the Gospel in Galilee. On Friday night, his youngest sister Ruth met him secretly by the lake for a private conversation that only John Zebedee ever knew about. Throughout everything that followed, Ruth remained the one member of the family who never wavered in her belief that Jesus was the Son of God. The next morning Jesus taught a growing crowd from a fishing boat on the Sea of Galilee. After he finished, he told the fishermen who had caught nothing all night to drop their nets again in a deep spot he indicated. They hauled in so many fish the nets nearly tore and three boats were needed to bring them in. One of the men fell to his knees and told Jesus to leave him because he was a sinner. From that day those fishermen left their nets to follow him. Jesus knew the lake and the habits of the fish; the rest of them saw it as a miracle. That Saturday Jesus spoke in the synagogue on the will of the Father in heaven. He read from Exodus and Isaiah, then told the people that religion is a personal experience between each soul and the Father, not a national or collective ritual. He quoted Jeremiah and Ezekiel to show that God deals with individuals, not only with Israel as a people, and that each person is a child of God. While he spoke, a young man had a violent epileptic seizure and cried out. Jesus took him by the hand and the seizure ended. Later that day, at Peter’s house, the fever left Amatha, Peter’s mother-in-law, while Jesus held her hand. People immediately spread word that more miracles had occurred.     Introduction to the Son of Man: Urantia Project

    This is the introduction to the Son of Man: Urantia Project. Part IV of The Urantia Book is a detailed account of the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth. It is not a religion about Jesus. The gospel is his life as he lived it. Son of Man: Urantia is my rewrite of that text into clear, modern English so more people can actually read it. This is not Christianity. There is no atonement doctrine. Jesus did not come to die for sins. He came to show the Father and how to live as sons and daughters of that Father. The higher Golden Rule: treat others as God wants us to treat them, not as we want them to treat us.Faith is the entrance into the kingdom.     Ch. 23.3, At Gilboa and in the Decapolis

    Early October. John’s twelve and Jesus’ Twelve meet at Gilboa. Jesus will not run the conference. He gives three talks—sympathy, tolerance, cooperation—then leaves for two weeks and tells no one where. They adopt the Nazareth prayer, meet every three months while John lives, and split the work: Jesus’ men teach, John’s men baptize. Repent versus believe stays open. He returns, backs the spirit of what they agreed, and they work the Decapolis until November 2. Near Pella, John sends the last question: are you the Deliverer? Jesus answers with the work, not a title, and calls John more than a prophet. Herod kills John on January 10, A.D. 28. The next day the word reaches camp. Jesus stops the lecture: the wait is over. Jesus answers in eight strokes: faith widens the soul, sonship is a gift not a wage, prayer opens worship, it breaks the monotony, it cools self-attack, it is the breath of the spirit, it recharges while worship tunes the mind, and it trades the human will for the Father’s.     Ch. 23.1, At Gilboa and in the Decapolis

    September on Mount Gilboa, between Samaria and the Decapolis. Public work is too hot: the leaders are hostile, Herod still holds John, and the two disciple camps are scraping. Jesus keeps the Twelve in camp so they will know the Gospel, so the city can cool, and so Herod can decide. They get childhood, Hermon, and a slice of the forty days—not to be told until after He leaves. Thomas asks for a prayer. John’s line is for the crowd. True prayer is the breath of the soul: unselfish, believing, sincere, intelligent, and submitted. Then He gives them the family prayer from Nazareth. Hello everyone, I’m Bob Kezer.     Ch. 22.2, Going Through Samaria

    Jacob’s well, late afternoon. A thirsty Jesus asks a Samaritan woman for a drink—and offers her living water. Nalda of Sychar mistakes kindness for flirtation, then hears her life named, then tries to hide in a fight over Gerizim versus Jerusalem. He will not let the dodge stand: God is Spirit, and worship is in spirit and in truth. Before the Apostles return, He tells her who He is—the first open claim of the Deliverer—to a woman the town had already written off. She drops the pitcher and runs. By sundown Sychar is at the well. Two days of harvest, camp on Mount Gerizim, and a night talk the Twelve only half understood: love is the great relationship, the cross is not the whole gospel, women have souls, prayer steadies you and worship forgets you.     Ch. 22.1, Going Through Samaria

    Jesus answers the charge that His Gospel is only for slaves and weaklings. In late June, A.D. 27, Jesus and the Apostles work with crowds of Greeks, Romans, and Syrians. One evening Philip reports that the Gentiles mock their message as a religion for slaves and weaklings, a gospel that would make feeble pacifists. Jesus answers that He came to do the Father’s will and reveal His loving character, that divine love still restrains, and that the Gospel is for all—Jew and Gentile, rich and poor, free and bond. He tells them the ascent to Paradise is a rugged adventure, that dying alone for the truth in your heart takes a higher courage than dying in battle, and that the noblest bravery is uncompromising loyalty to spiritual reality. That same stretch holds the lesson on self-mastery: not John’s path of self-denial, but a new life of self-control and self-forgetfulness, faith that a Spirit of God lives in the mind, and freedom to master desire instead of fear. When the strain with John’s disciples and the Gentile work becomes nearly unbearable, Jesus takes the Twelve up Mount Sartaba for three days of rest; they come down lighter, most of their troubles having shrunk. Then He says to Andrew, “We are going into Samaria,” and they set out for Sychar by Jacob’s well, into a seven-hundred-year feud the Apostles would rather have avoided. Loyalty to their friend holds them together, when Jesus’ teachings alone would not.
