    TSOL170 - Silver Scream Con Preview / Resident Evil (2026)

    They finally did it. This week on 30 Screams or Less, we review Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil, starring Austin Abrams—and after years of questionable adaptations, this might finally be the Resident Evil movie fans have been waiting for. We break down the film’s incredible tension, creature design, practical effects, comedy, IMAX experience, and the mountain of Easter eggs and video game references packed throughout Raccoon City. Does it follow the games directly? No—but it somehow captures the feeling of actually playing Resident Evil better than the movies that came before it. We also discuss the film’s hilariously questionable character decisions, its approach to ammo and survival-horror mechanics, the mysterious absence of the T-Virus name, and why this one left us wanting to immediately pick up a controller and play the games again. Before the review, we preview our upcoming trip to Silver Scream Con 2026, where 30 Screams or Less will once again be attending as press.     In this episode of 30 Screams or Less, we review Passenger, a 2026 supernatural horror film directed by Andrzej Oravdal and starring Jacob C. Pio, Lulu Belle, and Joseph Lopez. The story follows Tyler and Maddie, a young couple traveling the country in their van who discover that a gruesome highway accident may have left them with an unwanted passenger — a demonic presence determined to claim them both. Pasted text We break down Passenger's creepy use of background scares, its surprisingly original van-life horror concept, the Passenger itself, some brutal practical effects, and one of the movie's coolest sequences involving a projector in the middle of the woods. Unfortunately, we also have plenty to say about the predictable jump scares, questionable character logic, and pacing that somehow makes a 97-minute horror movie feel considerably longer.     TSOL168 - Deathwoods

    We head into the woods for a spoiler-filled review of Deathwoods, the 2026 indie slasher directed by Jake Kopronica and Deryk Wehrley and starring KateLynn E. Newberry, MacKenzie Lee, Anthony Dain, Haley Johnson, and Jake Kopronica. What starts as a weekend camping trip quickly turns into a blood-soaked fight for survival as an urban legend begins picking off the group one by one. Deathwoods doesn't exactly reinvent the slasher formula, but with its throwback ’80s atmosphere, surprisingly strong performances, high body count, brutal kills, and plenty of practical gore, it ended up being a lot more fun than either of us expected. We break down the movie's grindhouse-inspired presentation, the cinematography, the increasingly questionable decisions being made by everyone in the woods, a twist that caught us off guard, and why horror characters still haven't learned to stay the hell out of abandoned houses. There is one major issue, though: the audio mix. Between dialogue getting buried under ambient sound and sudden volume spikes, both of us eventually gave up and turned on subtitles. Somehow, even Corey's years of destroyed concert hearing weren't enough preparation. Despite that, Deathwoods delivered where it mattered. Steve and Corey both give it a 4 out of 5. Starring Richard Brake as Geppetto, Robert Englund as Cricket, Jude Evan Lloyd as the voice of Pinocchio, and Cameron Bell as James, Pinocchio Unstrung follows the iconic wooden puppet on a disturbing journey to become a real boy — one that involves brutal kills, stolen body parts, and a seriously warped interpretation of the original story. We break down the movie’s incredible practical puppetry and animatronic effects, Richard Brake’s menacing performance, Robert Englund’s Freddy Krueger-inspired callbacks, Andrew Scott Bell’s score, the surprisingly compelling story, and some of the most ridiculous and creative kills in the Poohniverse so far. Two teenage boys become trapped in a nightmare when a violent supernatural entity begins taking the form of the person they desire most — each other. We break down the film’s unsettling mix of religious horror, sexuality, guilt, and supernatural terror, the major It Follows vibes, and the clever way the entity constantly leaves both the characters and audience questioning who is real. We also dig into the relationship between Naim and Ryan, the incredible performances from Joe Bird and Stacey Clauson, the film’s cinematography and score, and why its slow-burn approach to character development makes the horror hit even harder.     We’re diving back into Dangerous Animals for a special 30 Screams or Less: Podcaster’s Cut — our extended, less-edited version of the episode featuring more tangents, more screwups, and plenty of conversations that probably should have stayed on the cutting-room floor.
