The Practical Outworking of Grace (Romans 12:14-21) – John Lucero

In today’s text, the exhortation to “rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep” reflects the heart of genuine Christian community and grace. Rooted in our unity as the body of Christ, it calls believers to share compassionately and sincerely in both the joys and sorrows of others. This practice goes beyond mere sympathy; it embodies Christ’s own example of celebrating at a wedding and mourning at a grave, displaying true empathy and selfless love. Through the Holy Spirit’s transforming work, Christians are enabled to put aside selfishness, embrace humility, and actively participate in one another’s lives—celebrating blessings without envy and sharing burdens without detachment. This is the practical outworking of God’s grace: a life that mirrors Christ’s compassion, offering loving presence to a hurting world. Marks of a Living Sacrifice (Romans 12.9-13) John Lucero

Marks of a Living Sacrifice Romans 12:9-13 “9 Love must be free of hypocrisy. Detest what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor, 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, 13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality.” In today’s text, we are called to embody the marks of a living sacrifice, moving from theological doctrine to practical Christian living. The apostle Paul exhorts the church to let love be genuine, detesting evil and clinging to what is good. This passage emphasizes that true Christian love must be sincere and free from hypocrisy, reflecting the very heart of God. Believers are urged to honor one another, serve the Lord with fervor, rejoice in hope, persevere through trials, remain steadfast in prayer, and practice generosity and hospitality. These commands are not optional but are essential duties for every follower of Christ, rooted in the transformative grace received from God. Paul’s instructions progress from personal conduct to relationships within the church and beyond, illustrating that sacrificial living is demonstrated through selfless love, humility, and active service. The Christian life, therefore, is marked by a continual offering of oneself, motivated by God’s mercy, so that the love of Christ is made visible in every aspect of daily life. Genesis 3:18-19 Hope Through the Curse

Hope Through the Curse explores the consequences of Adam’s sin as described in Genesis 3:17-19, focusing on the curse placed on the ground which effected Adam. It highlights how Adam’s joyful task of cultivating and keeping the garden turned into laborious toil, symbolized by thorns and thistles. The sermon connects this struggle to the broader human experience of work, emphasizing its challenges and the cycle of effort required for survival. Despite the curse, their is hope through Christ, who redeems and restores humanity. Work, once a burden, becomes an opportunity for worship and witness when done with sincerity and as service to God. Biblical passages such as Col. 3:22-24 and Eph. 6:5-8 encourage believers to approach their work with integrity, viewing it as a platform to glorify God and demonstrate Christian values. Ultimately, the sermon underscores the importance of relying on God for hope and maintaining a faithful Christian testimony in all aspects of life, including the workplace. The post Genesis 3:18-19 Hope Through the Curse appeared first on Welcome, bienvenida!.

For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many. 16 The gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift arose from many transgressions resulting in justification. 17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. – Romans 5:15-17 (NASB 1995) For more resources and to learn more about Columbus Street Baptist Church in Bakersfield, Ca., visit www.columbusstreet.com.
