    Genie was born in 1957 and was abused by her father until she was 13 years old. Her abuse included depriving her of human contact and any form of verbal communication. When Genie and her mother finally left their abusive home, Genie piqued the interest of psychologists and linguists, and this affected her recovery from her childhood.
