    The Host (2006) - HHF4M3

    It’s HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST ONCE AGAIN and in the classic style so each weekday is a fun-ass theme and this 3rd week of HERE THERE BE MONSTER MONDAYS is actually fun-ass. It evokes a myriad of emotions, actually, and it does so very impressively. Makes sense since this monster movie is directed by Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho. We’re talking his crossover Korean hit “THE HOST” from 2006. The hubris of man strikes again as military scientists dump chemicals into the Han river, four years later something is crawling out of it, eating people and kidnapping children. This bumbling family must do what it takes to get their youngest back and no “virus” or lobotomizing will get in the way but they might f**k some things up along the way. The monster is only the symptom in this unique Korean Kaiju story. Go find it and then come and find us, again, and we can talk about it together.     Exorcist III (1990) - HHF4F3

    We’re getting whiplash when it comes to quality for FRANCHISE FREAK FRIDAYS but that’s just how it goes when you horrorload for HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST. It’s just gotta be done. After the Exorcist’s sequel, which should only be consumed by the most loyal Fangoria subscribers, got universally panned it took thirteen years to get another one. William Peter Blatty really wanted to save that film legacy the best he could so they let him adapt his own book this time and brought in General Patton himself, George C. Scott and a young Brad Dourif to bring the creeping and possession to a different level. Thus we have EXORCIST III from 1990. We might call this a narrow redemption but apparently audiences are split on this one. What do you think?     The Last Man on Earth (1964) - HHF4Th3

    THRILLER THURSDAYS WITH VINCENT PRICE CONTINUES for five straight weeks in October. It’s HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST season and it feels so good. But you know what doesn’t feel good? Being the last human being on planet Earth. That last man makes his way, stabbing vampires/zombies/ghouls, burning their bodies, crying over his dead wife and salting meats. He had to really salt a lot of meat. The first adaptation of Richard Matheson’s “I Am Legend” is this 1964 sci-fi horror  ‘THE LAST MAN ON EARTH” and when all the humans are gone, what are the monsters that are left behind? Let us all join the NEW BEATNIK SOCIETY. Watch this movie and listen to this episode to know what we’re talking about. Bring the kids.     The Man Who Could Cheat Death (1959) - HHF4W2

    We’re rolling over our second hump for HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST 4. Our second hump for HAMMER HORROR HUMPDAYS every Wednesday in October and today’s selection is all about the cost of immortality. Though everything would have been fine if Dr. Ludwig had maybe let him know that he had a stroke before hand. Can the intensley melodramatic Dr. Bonner find someone to do his surgery so he can make it to 114 years old? What will he do to cheat death? That’s why the movie is called THE MAN WHO COULD CHEAT DEATH from 1959 and it’s by prolific Hammer alumns Terrance Fisher and Jimmy Sangster. It also stars Christopher Lee. The Hammer fare is pretty easy to find so we have a link to the movie below if you feel like enlightening yourself further.     Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) - HHF4M2

    I can’t believe we went through this whole weird and wild movie and forgot to mention the best part…the Monica Belluci breast to mountain scene transition. Of course a French guy would come up with that. It ruled so add a half a point to the final score. That said WELCOME TO HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST 4 and every Monday we’re talkin’ creatures of varying proportions of “big” and this one may be our smallest monster but no less dangerous and probably the most mysterious. Today’s HERE THERE BE MONSTER MONDAYS episode features creatures, babes, a naturalist Knight, an Iroquois ninja, an unkempt arm and a burgeoning revolution in 18th century France. A smash hit over there and a cult success here in the US. Of course we’re talking about BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF from 2001 directed by Christophe Gans. By the time it’s done it feels like they managed everything but the kitchen sink in this flick. There were literally zero kitchen sinks. Of all the monsters featured for our Mondays, this one feels the most sympathetic in spite of the film’s barreling approach. Not perfect but there’s a Monica Bellucci scene where her breast are out and it transitions them into a mountain range. What more do you need, really?
